The Medium Oral Transmission: Bardo, Clear Light, Self-Appearance, Abides. Explaining the essence of wisdom's clear light, I prostrate at the feet of the venerable lama. This oral transmission of Bardo, Clear Light, Self-Appearance, I will explain for the benefit of future generations, listen with respect. Although there are many ways to categorize and summarize the bardo, here there are six: recognizing the bardo of the fundamental state of reality, practicing the bardo of clear light samadhi, measuring the bardo of illusory dreams, clarifying the bardo of the arising of death, securing the ground of the bardo of spontaneous dharmata, and connecting to the bardo of karmic existence. The first has three aspects: understanding the meaning, revealing the signs, and generating faith through examples. The first is: in the center of one's heart, within the clear light wisdom channel, like the essence of essence, like a tree trunk, the nature of awareness-wisdom is emptiness, the dharmakaya is like the sky, free from all extremes of elaboration. The self-nature is clear, the sambhogakaya is like a rainbow, appearing but without inherent existence, the heart essence of compassion-awareness is like the surface of a clear mirror. This mind of inseparable body and wisdom naturally abides. The second is: the light channel from the heart to the eye is connected by a crystal tube, like a lamp symbolizing the presence of light, the light shines outward. Symbolizing that wisdom's clear light is within, it shows that the light of the empty thigle appears in the eye. The third is: essence is empty, self-nature is clear, compassion is unceasing, although any example of the inseparable three bodies can symbolize it, for the sake of very clear explanation, all activities of awareness are recognized in their self-nature through three meanings each. The first, the example of the dharmakaya crystal symbolizes emptiness, clarity, transparency, and purity. The light of the crystal appears when the sun rises, just as this is pure and transparent, so too is awareness pure and transparent. Just as this has no color or essence to grasp, so too does awareness have no essence to grasp. Just as this has no actual light, but inherently possesses primordial radiance, so too, although the emptiness of awareness has not been established as light, body color, and wisdom, the inherent radiance, body, and wisdom are inseparable. After saying this, when held up to the sun's rays, the five lights clearly appear.

It is an example of the body. White and subtle light is an example of compassion and wisdom. The essence of purity is an example of the emptiness of the Dharmakaya. These arise from the nature of crystal and abide in nature. Just as merging into nature, body and wisdom also arise from the nature of the essence Dharmakaya, abide in nature, and are recognized in merging into nature. Second, recognizing the Sambhogakaya as an illusion: The lama enters the attire of the Sambhogakaya, and the disciple looks through the mirror. In the realm of the sky, it is completely filled with the light of the Sambhogakaya, thereby gaining recognition. Here, just as the appearance of the five-colored light is clear and uninterrupted, the abiding of body and wisdom in the realm of clear light is also the same. Its essence and nature do not exist, so being completely transparent is an example of the Dharmakaya. Manifesting as body and light is an example of the Sambhogakaya. The appearance of the part with wisdom, such as preaching the Dharma, is an example of the Nirmanakaya. These also gather on one basis, so they are inseparable. Thus it is taught. Third, the example of the Nirmanakaya is recognizing the union of light circles: When looking at a mirror that shines on the sun, the five-colored light appears uninterruptedly. Just as the five-colored light is clear in this, know that from the nature of wisdom, the Sambhogakaya manifests as the Nirmanakaya, and the sound or power of compassion appears uninterruptedly. That is also the part of emptiness that is completely transparent is an example of the Dharmakaya. The appearing five-colored light is an example of the Sambhogakaya. The appearance of rays from it is an example of the Nirmanakaya. These three are one in essence and inseparable. Or, when a candle is illuminated with a mirror, the appearing completely transparent is an example of the Dharmakaya. The root candle is an example of the Sambhogakaya. The example of emanating from it and appearing in the sky, spreading light in all ten directions, is an example of the Nirmanakaya. These are all recognized as the nature of being inseparable from one basis. Fourth, the example of recognizing the inseparability of the three bodies is the mandala of the sun: When covered with silk, it symbolizes the mandala of the sun. Not recognizing the essence of the sun is an example of the Dharmakaya. The appearance of the five-colored light, bright and dazzling, is an example of the Sambhogakaya. Radiating light in various directions is an example of the Nirmanakaya. These three gather in one sun, which is an example of the inseparability of body and wisdom. The method of knowing these is, in "Kunsel," it says: In the realm of the heart, the light is clear, like a lamp inside a vase. The unchanging wisdom is the unerroneous primordial Buddha, the meaning.
