The Quintessence of Trekchö, Abiding in the Vast Expanse of Space. 《Called the Vast Expanse of Space》. Homage to glorious Samantabhadra! Primordial enlightenment, spontaneous wisdom's realm, without basis or root, primordially liberated, without change or alteration. Innate nature, let go, self-liberated, without fabrication, without separation, therefore I pay homage. The king of reality, the treasury of the wisdom of dharmata, samsara and nirvana are non-dual, equally vast. The meaning without abandoning or adopting, without negating or affirming, without hope or fear, as I have realized, I will explain, listen! In the wisdom without wide or narrow, high or low, do not identify this as the nature of space. The dharmata of unborn, completely pure, in the nature that transcends the mind of yes or no, do not bother to seek with the mind in the three times. As long as there is a mind of partiality and attachment, that self-grasping is the realm of the darkness of ignorance. Without the ability to realize the nature of reality, it is the cause of bondage, therefore, if there is a deliberate object of focus, let it go. Whatever is focused on is the box of bondage, by grasping at duality, the true meaning is not seen. The mind of yes or no is attachment to negation and affirmation, grasping at that as the meaning, do not be bound! Not abandoning anything, the meaning beyond all, impartial wisdom, without support, self-reliant. Indescribable as this, free from all thoughts, non-dual, vast, great, all-encompassing. Like cutting off space, self-born wisdom is vast and impartial. Beings hold onto their own desired tenets with their minds, not realizing their innate nature, they have little merit. When one desires one's own side as this, then there is other, which is the dharma to be abandoned. Without the opportunity to realize non-duality, grasping at the apprehended and the apprehender, it is truly pitiable. Becoming bound in the box of a powerless mind, the nature of which is a dharma that closely deceives. Deluded in samsara, what is the use of that? Know that it is like space, without example, impartial. The unwavering, primordially pure bodhicitta, the nature of non-objectification, free from elaboration. It can never be altered, it is just as it is, let go of the mind that thinks it is just as it is. In the definitive meaning, there is no way to indicate this, beyond all abandoning and adopting, negating and affirming, hoping and fearing. Without a basis, without the attachment to the path, cessation, and result, non-dual, spontaneous, unwavering.

Oh! The king without action, the self-nature is perfectly vast, inconceivable, the very expanse beyond thought. Just as in the vast expanse of the sky, the four elements change and various phenomena appear, yet the sky does not change, as it was before, so it is afterwards. In the very state of the vast and pure expanse of self-nature, the five aggregates are like illusions, the six elements and twelve sense bases, karma and afflictions, all that appears in existence, the container and its contents, although various karmas manifest and transform, the self-born wisdom is unmoving, unwavering, and unchanging. Self-awareness, the ultimate truth, and illusory appearances are called conventional, but in reality, they are non-existent, like reflections. The unborn nature of reality is pure self-nature. Thus, in the face of the delusion of beings in existence, from the very moment of appearance, self-nature is unimpeded, like illusions, dreams, and optical illusions. Because it is dependent origination, it is empty of truth, and because it has no essence, it has never existed from the beginning. What appears coarsely, if analyzed, is a particle, and even that, if analyzed, is separate from all directions. Like space, insubstantial, the form of emptiness in self-nature, sound, smell, taste, and touch are also in a state of emptiness. Because it arises from dependent origination, from causes and conditions, it has no essence. The mind is also insubstantial, beyond the realm of color and visibility. If analyzed very carefully, there is no grasper or grasped, from the beginning it is pure, the realm of self-aware emptiness. Samsara and Nirvana are not two, grasping at duality, know that it arises from dependent origination without a basis. Thus, all phenomena are unborn from the beginning, beyond expression and all partiality, the unwise cling to truth and are deluded in existence. With the mind that grasps at "I" and "mine" as two, under the control of delusion, like the turning of a chariot wheel. With meaningless clinging, in the deluded cycle of existence, those who individually distinguish what has no self-nature, cling to and are attached to the form of emptiness that appears as non-existent, under the control of various pleasures and pains, how tormented. All past and future thoughts, the flood of karma and afflictions, the suffering of having no autonomy, how unbearable. On the phenomena that appear clearly in non-existence, clinging to and being attached to the characteristics of reality, wandering in samsara for a long time, still not knowing liberation, sentient beings without beginning or end, how pitiful. Thus, all deluded beings who appear in non-existence, are naturally pure from the beginning, because of the sudden defilements, therefore, to tame them, the Dharma of the Victorious One, which is in accordance with oneself and in accordance with wisdom, was taught.
