In appearance, the awareness that is free from names and meanings, arises clearly and without clinging. At that time, the wind dissolves into the heart, the sound remains in its own state, the mind stops, and wisdom becomes clear, this is the meaning (of it). Examining awareness: one's own mind, the object of mind, the emptiness of objects, Ah Ah, liberation from bondage, what is "piece piece"? Like this, enumerate whatever comes up without any connection, and speak loudly. From the totality of sound, there is nothing that can be identified, becoming bewildered and blank, this is the meaning of unconnected, primordial liberation. Or, where were you and I born in the previous life? Where will we be born in the next life? Speak it out loudly and forcefully. When one says, "What are you saying?" and becomes confused and blank, remaining in that state, it can be determined that this is the meaning of the mind stopping and awareness being self-illuminated. Third, examining the non-duality of appearance and mind: the lama points to a place and says to the student, "Go there." When halfway there, he says, "Now come back." In the interval between going and coming, although the activity of going and coming and the object of appearance have not stopped, the clinging to names and meanings, and the thoughts of the mind have stopped. Clearly knowing, appearing blankly, it can be determined that this is the wisdom of the nature of awareness. Thus, through various symbols and methods, recognizing the awareness that is free from grasping and being grasped, which is the great meaning of being primordially present and abiding in its own nature, the great spontaneously accomplished perfection, recognizing it at all times, this is recognizing the wisdom that transcends the mind. The second point is, the actual instruction on the face of awareness, divided into two parts. First, settling the meaning in its own nature: adjusting the posture, relaxing slightly, and giving the instruction in that state: Alas! Fortunate one, the present knowing is free from going and coming, the sound has not stopped, this bewildered and blank state is precisely the meaning of the primordially pure dharmakaya. Without inside and outside, without view, meditation, action, and result, without existence, non-existence, is, or is not, without words and terms, naturally blank, the state of mind clear and relaxed, primordially liberated and open, without clinging and clear, bright and awake, without truth and empty. Abiding in this state where the essence cannot be identified, without any effort or clinging, this is recognizing awareness as primordially liberated, the spontaneously accomplished great perfection of the dharmakaya, without thought and empty, without meditation and relaxed, without effort and awake, without trace and open, without clinging to anything, abiding in a state like space. "Abide like an unmoving mountain."

Rest like an unmoving, clear ocean. Rest like a task completed, free from hope and doubt. Rest like a broad-minded, carefree old man. In the uncorrected, self-settled nature of reality, the unlocalized, primordial Dharmakaya is spontaneously accomplished. Do not fabricate; rest in natural ease. Thus, advise. Introducing the absence of arising and ceasing of mindfulness and awareness: Again, fortunate ones, although various moving thoughts may seem to arise from that state of resting, since there is no place of arising and no one who arises, recognize that there is no arising or vanishing. When that arises, look! Without grasping at any intrinsic nature, either internal or external, practice that there is no such thing as arising or liberation. Remaining in that state, it is unmoving and spontaneously accomplished. By deciding that there is no arising or non-arising, have faith that there is no liberation or non-liberation. Without artificially applying remedies to the meaningless mind, rest in that unborn state in great freedom. Looking is not enough; chasing cannot catch it. Without having experienced existence, do not grasp at existence. However it arises, rest easily, letting it arise on its own. Even if you connect mind to mind, which is without benefit or harm, the wheel of conceptualization will never cease. Resting naturally in that instant is the Dharmakaya. The cessation of mind is the natural state of wisdom awareness. However thoughts and concepts may wander and whatever may appear, since it has never existed from the moment of its appearance, in the empty valley of non-grasping and non-attachment, cast it away freely and naturally. Look at awareness, unadulterated by stains or blemishes, the naturally clear, unobstructed, primordially liberated state. Looking does not find it; there is no reason. In the empty, luminous state, free from foundation, resting in itself, there is nothing to grasp. Ordinary awareness is the state of reality. Relax and rest in primordial spontaneity. This is the natural state of Dzogchen. Whatever arises, let it go easily in its own natural state at the moment of appearance. Recognize the nature of your own clear awareness without distraction. Since nothing has ever existed in the place of arising, it is beyond the realm of benefit and harm. By simply relaxing in that state, conceptual thoughts are purified into the expanse without being abandoned. Abide in the great, primordial, spontaneously present nature of reality. Look at awareness, uncorrupted by mind, clear and without conceptualization, the naturally abiding awareness, uncorrected and unadulterated. Is the nature of naked awareness, the wisdom of coemergence without elaboration, like the sun rising in the clear sky, appearing without direction, vast and unobstructed, clear and empty?
