Because it is a vessel for containing. As it is said, therefore, it is very important for the teacher and student to examine their qualities. Regarding the pith instructions, although it is said that there are transmissions, introductions, and empowerments, they are related to the four empowerments of meaning, and are the two transmissions of the sixteen hand mudras of practice. Furthermore, although there are many stages of hand mudras, they are all gathered here. From the book of pith instructions, it is said to do it this way. First is the preliminary practice, then the main practice of settling the mind, the order is to realize directly, and then to explain the support for generating faith, as well as the signs, measures, and fruits of practice. First, practice this, whether it is an empowerment with objects of focus, or any other tantra, one should properly receive the empowerment, rely on the lama, and in order to generate certainty and the infusion of blessings, the guru yoga is: from this very Vajra Path it is shown, all session intervals are the root of blessings. Therefore, on the crown of one's head, on the seat of the sun and moon, visualize the lama and all the Buddhas as inseparable as Vajrasattva or any other deity, from his thumb a stream of bodhicitta flows, merging into the fontanel of my head, pray to him, the four chakras of the body are gradually filled, the body and mind are intoxicated with uncontaminated bliss, abide in this, the body will feel comfortable, and the meaning of the nature of reality will appear in the mind. As it is said, now one should practice. In that session interval, the body performs the Vajra three-pointed wheel, the soles of the feet are joined together, the hands are joined in prayer at the crown of the head, visualize the body as a blue Vajra, and abiding in it will be protected. As it is said, so do it for one session each time. The section of the preliminary practice, this is the first. Then one should train the mind. There are seven of them, the seven practices in the text, the seven necessities of practice, the seven standards of proficiency. Although it is said to be in sections, here it is shown as practice: first, both teacher and student make the body comfortable, offer a mandala to the lama, and then the lama will teach. First, contemplate impermanence, training the mind of bodhicitta is: we have been in this samsara from beginningless time, always thinking that the appearances of objects are real and permanent, therefore it has become the cause of wandering in samsara, so contemplate im

One should remember death. That is, after one is born, one gradually approaches death and will surely die. Keep in mind the death and separation of parents and relatives. For those who have died and will die like this, one should do beneficial things. Furthermore, even now, many moments have passed and one is approaching death. All sentient beings, because they do not understand such impermanence, hope for permanence and do many things, but in the end they must abandon everything, fall into the lower realms, and suffer. Therefore, knowing this, one should cultivate renunciation. In this way, when the mind turns away from samsara and a firm belief in impermanence arises in the mind, that is the measure of stability. The second is to contemplate temporary happiness and lasting happiness, and thereby train the mind of enlightenment: Alas, sentient beings in the lower realms of hell, hungry ghosts, and animals have no happiness at all. Even the temporary happiness of gods and humans, even if it arises from giving and moral conduct, is not permanent and will eventually become a source of suffering. This is explained in all the sutras, vinaya, and shastras, and it will become apparent. Whoever has experienced joy and happiness before will change, and other happiness is also impermanent, youth is impermanent, power is impermanent, food, clothing, and wealth will all change, one must believe this deeply. One must obtain ultimate and lasting happiness from all of these. That is the ultimate secret of the Buddhas, cultivating shamatha and vipassana, and cultivating compassion for all deluded sentient beings. By cultivating in this way, there is a need to generate aversion to suffering, and this is the sign of seeing conditioned phenomena as suffering. The third is to contemplate from various causes and conditions, and thereby train the mind of enlightenment: Now all sentient beings want happiness, but the causes of happiness are few, and the causes of suffering are many. The causes of death are many, and the causes of life are few. In short, in this samsara, for the actions that are done, the three doors of body, speech, and mind are never idle for a moment, but are engaged in various causes and conditions. However, if one does not encounter the correct path and does not practice, then due to the causes and conditions of conceptual thought, these sentient beings will not have a time to be liberated from samsara. I myself was also deluded before, and other sentient beings are also so pitiful. By training in this way, with faith as the forerunner.
