A Tika on Empowerment Without Elaborations. Guhyakatham, Fourth Chapter. Homage to the Bhagavan, Glorious Vajradhara. Herein, I shall present a tika that clarifies the empowerment without elaborations. Also, the characteristics of the guru and disciple must be clearly defined. The guru is one whose knowledge is unobstructed, who has cast aside worldly dharmas, who is content with little desire, who is skilled in practice and has experience, who is proficient in the meaning of the tantras and diligent in practice, who is skilled in the meaning of view and meditation and whose abilities are complete, who is compassionate and delights in giving. Therefore, the empowerment of non-elaboration is conferred upon the disciple. The disciple is one who has faith, who desires to attain Buddhahood, who is slow-witted and stable, whose senses are subdued and whose wisdom is pure, whose senses are clear, who understands the meaning of words, who does not transgress the vows he has taken, who abides by the three vows, who is compassionate and respects the guru, who has little fastidiousness and great asceticism, and who is able to give away all possessions. Therefore, the former is a sign of studying mantras, and the guru should praise and grant permission to him. Then the disciple relies on the guru with a mind full of respect, abandons all aspects of worldly dharmas, and focuses on the supreme state. Moreover, the place of empowerment is: in terms of the body of water, in places such as water islands, if one enters into the respective years, months, days, seasons, and fixed times, then the fruit of the ripening empowerment will surely arise. In terms of the body of fire, in places such as forests, grasslands, and various wild animals, the three people of fire will surely accomplish their respective years, months, days, and times. The body of earth, being vast and flat, is the same as before. The realm of wind is straight and the wind swirls, each being the same as before. Thus, by combining the fixed body and place, the fruit will surely arise. Here, this is the combination of approach, practice, and special entry, as well as the praise of the approach substances, and the taming of the mind to be contemplated. The approach is to recite the letters that transform the body seven thousand times, the speech one hundred thousand times, and the mind ten thousand times, so that the flow of blessings will surely be revealed. Then, in practice, by reciting the letters of the spontaneously arising elements seven hundred thousand times, the birth of speech and mind will be completely purified, and meditation will be established.

The special method of entering is: Entering the time is: By entering the time of the seed, it perfects the meaning of this and the other world. By entering the time of the fruit, it condenses the essence of the meaning. By entering with faith, the special union will surely be accomplished. By entering the time when the four Dakinis rotate the wheel, the accomplishment is swift, and power and ability arise. The praise of interdependent substances is: The difference between outer and inner offerings is that the oath-bound ones help when accumulating merit. The immeasurable gatherings and torma items cause the retinue to gather and enjoyment to increase. By accumulating many oath substances, the oath-bound ones gather, and one obtains the perfect worldly power. By accumulating the substances for empowerment such as mandalas, vases, mirrors, and peacocks, blessings arise and one's own lineage matures. The mental discipline to be contemplated is: The two, teacher and student, should be of one mind, and should be devoted with the intention to be liberated from samsara in any way possible, and should do so with the firm intention to liberate all sentient beings from samsara. These are the preliminaries. Therefore, by reciting the mantra of the body syllable (Tibetan: ཨཱོཾ, Devanagari: ओ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal meaning: Om), having obtained the body of the Buddha with a fortunate body, it is necessary to turn back from nirvana, being non-dual with the body of all Buddhas. By reciting the mantra of the speech syllable (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Devanagari: आ, Romanized Sanskrit: āḥ, Literal meaning: Ah), the speech of the Buddha is immaculate, inexpressible, and free from sound and words, it is necessary to turn back from nirvana, being non-dual with the speech of all Buddhas. By reciting the mantra of the mind syllable (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hum), the mind of the fortunate one obtains the unborn and unceasing mind of all Buddhas, and the three wisdoms of clearly knowing everything, it is necessary to turn back from nirvana, being non-dual with the mind of all Buddhas of the three times. The blessings that come from such recitation are that the three doors of body, speech, and mind of the disciple should be purified through the tsok and torma, and the detailed empowerment ritual. After that, the actions of the lama are: For the meaning of the seed, the disciple should be marked with bindus, and the differences of the vases should be in accordance with what is said in the common empowerment ritual. In particular, the ritual for elevating and making the disciple more stable is: Three fragrant bindus should be placed on the three places.
