Therefore, by first performing the self-generation ritual of the Eight Commands of Accomplishment, bless the outer world and inner beings, summon and subdue demons, and make offerings to the protectors, all must be done properly. Second, the actions of the disciple are: in order to purify the continuum before the empowerment, perform confession and take vows, generate the mind of benefiting others, diligently study the order of vows, offer a feast gathering to the lama and the sangha, recite the Vajrasattva Hundred Syllable Mantra no less than one hundred thousand times, make offerings to the protectors and request permission, etc., these must be done beforehand. First is the prayer: Ema, Great Accomplished Master Heruka! You are the lord of samsara and nirvana! For me to protect and propagate the Dharma, please grant the power, authority, and grace of the arrogant ones! The lama says: Ema, your intention is especially great! Do not be obscured by selfish desires, for the sake of protecting and propagating the Dharma, please grant the supreme empowerment and make me happy! In the presence of the Lama, the Great Accomplished One, the Eight Commands of Accomplishment, the Three Roots, and the Protectors, who are manifestly present, vow to accumulate, purify, and increase the three activities, take refuge and generate a special mind, please perform this common seven-branch confession. The Vajra Master etc. recite three times. Give the vow water. Ho! This is the water of Vajrasattva! The vows of the lama and disciple are united! From emptiness, in the protective tent, in the center surrounded by the eight great charnel grounds, in the wrathful palace made of dry and wet skulls, one's own mind transforms into the syllable Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: 吽), from the blue Hūṃ syllable instantly manifests as the Great Accomplished One, the Subduer of All Arrogant Ones, that is, three faces, six arms, and four legs, trampling on the hearts of the great arrogant gods. The right face is white, the left face is yellow, and the middle face is blue. The first two hands hold a vajra and a blood-filled skull cup, the lower two right hands hold the heads of the eight great gods, and the lower two left hands hold the heads of the eight great nagas.
