Naro and Marpa are inseparable. Their followers proclaimed Shawaripa as the father and the victorious Maitripa as the son, thus the mountain retreat masters, father and son. Their lineage in Tibet branched into two: teachings and practice, with the latter being the main focus here. Regarding the teachings lineage, there also appeared Jowoje Lhachik, as well as Marpa Chokyi Lodro, Vairotsana, Korni Rupa, Gyagar Chakna, the Nepalese Asu, Rechung Dorje Drakpa, and Ngari Nagpo, about eight in total. Although it flourished in the early days, nowadays the actual teachings lineage is very rare. However, the Dohā's scriptural authority and profound instructions seem to pervade many of the later treatises of the Nyingma school and all the new secret mantras. In general, the main instruction of the Dohā is accomplished through the Great Seal of Coemergent Union, but specifically, only the seed of the lineage known as the Dohā's own instruction remains, and the root, commentary, and scriptural authority of the Three Cycles of Dohā have not been interrupted to this day. How I obtained it myself will also be detailed below. The main figure who promoted the flourishing of the Great Seal teachings was the incomparable Gampopa. He is the source of the Coemergent Union where two great rivers of teachings converge. One source is the learned Shantipa and the disciple of Maitripa, the pandit of Sahora, Jowoje Palden Atisha Dipamkara Shrijnana. The other is Pal Lhodrak Marpa Lotsawa Chokyi Lodro, who is connected to the feet of the venerable Narotapa and the master Maitripa. The instructions that come from him are the main topic to be discussed here. Furthermore, Dampa Mipham Wangpo's "Great Seal Immaculate Thigle" and the accomplished Khyunpo Naljor's "Self-Arisen Great Seal" also followed the mountain retreat father and son. Moreover, it is said that some reliable holy figures have stated that during the early translation period of the Tibetan Tantric Nyingma school, the Dohā was translated and a lineage of instruction and practice arose. Correspondingly, it also appears in the writings of Jamyang Gonpo of the Dzogchen Semde Aro instruction, so it is convincing, but now there is no widespread knowledge or visibility of instructions transmitted from the early translation.

Numerous and vast teachings have emerged from the treasures, and now I will recount the portion that I have received. The Incomparable Gampopa was prophesied in the sutras by the Complete Buddha Shakyamuni as the master who reveals the definitive meaning. He is the playful manifestation of the heart of Amitabha, the Vajra of Speech of all Victors, and Padmakara. He is known as the Incomparable Dagpo Lhaje Dharma Kyab, or Kunga Nyingpo, or Nyi Gön Sönam Rinchen, the great Bodhisattva who is like a young moon of blossoming light. Initially, he cultivated excellent meditation through the instructions passed down from Jowo Je and his spiritual sons. Then, from Milarepa Shepa Dorje, the heart-son of Lhodrak Marpa, he perfectly received the instructions on the Six Dharmas of the Path, and directly beheld the natural face of the wisdom of reality. Thus, the instructions of the Kadampa tradition became like rivers merging into one, and that is how it became known. In the past, Marpa and Milarepa gave the instructions on the Six Dharmas to their disciples, generating bliss-emptiness wisdom through the power of tummo (藏文:གཏུམ་མོ།,梵文天城体:चण्डाली,梵文罗马拟音:caṇḍālī,汉语字面意思:猛厉火), and during the stage of self-luminous luminosity, they introduced the nature of mind, the reality. They inspired certainty in other profound instructions such as dohas, but they did not establish a separate, independent system of instructions called Mahamudra. However, Lord Dagpo, being skilled in guiding disciples, combined the union of co-emergence from Jowo Je with the intent of the luminous Mahamudra of Marpa and Mila, directly introducing the innate wisdom of mind itself. He differentiated the levels of the path through the stages of the four yogas, and established the teaching method of Mahamudra Union of Co-emergence as a separate, independent system. This made it easy for all disciples, whether superior, middling, or inferior, to enter the path, and he spread the supreme path with great kindness. It is said that the scripture for such a Mahamudra is also the Samadhiraja Sutra, and Gampopa himself acknowledged that it is also Maitreya's Uttaratantra. The main transmission comes from the dohas of the great Brahmin and the hermitage masters, father and son, and the instructions of Tilopa and Naropa, emphasizing the profound meaning of the luminous Mahamudra, and establishing the definitive meaning of the nature of reality. This is the sequence.
