Concerning Difficult Points of Doctrine. A record of refuge, opening the door of faith. Here, if the term "དཀོན་མཆོག་(dkon mchog, ratna,Precious)" is derived from the Sanskrit word "རཏྣ(ratna)", as it says in the Uttaratantra: "Because it is rare in appearance, because it is stainless, because it possesses power, and because it is the ornament of the world, because it is supreme, because it is immutable, it is the Jewel." If compared to a wish-fulfilling jewel, then the wish-fulfilling jewel is rare in its appearance in the world, without the stain of faults, possessing the power to dispel darkness and disease and bestow abundance, becoming the ornament of the world, being the most supreme of all things, and it itself does not change. Similarly, the Three Jewels are rare in their appearance in the world, are supreme, and so on. There are six kinds of etymological explanations. Here, the words "because it is rare in appearance" and "supreme" are actually taken, and these two parts are combined into one word, expressed as "དཀོན་མཆོག་(dkon mchog,Precious)". So, how many kinds of such Jewels are there? The ways of determining them as three, etc., will be explained below. If we differentiate them, there are three ways of classifying: the Lesser Vehicle, the Common Great Vehicle, and the Uncommon Great Vehicle. First, how do the Lesser Vehicle proponents establish the classification of the Three Jewels? The Abhidharmakosha says: "Whoever goes for refuge to the three, that is, the Dharma practiced by the Buddha and the Sangha, the non-learner and both, and Nirvana are the objects of refuge." As it is said, according to the view of any vehicle, there is a difference between the general classification of the Three Jewels and the special Three Jewels that are the objects of refuge. So, how does the Vaibhashika school identify the Three Jewels that are the objects of refuge? "The Dharma practiced by the Buddha and the Sangha" refers to the cause that makes a Buddha a Buddha, that is, the truth of the path of no-more-learning in the mind-stream of the Buddha, which is considered to be the Buddha Jewel. The Dharma Jewel is generally considered to be the Dharma of scripture and realization, and the sacred Dharma such as the twelve divisions of scripture, but as the object of refuge,
