From the potency of emptiness, which is nothing whatsoever, arises the nature of interdependent origination, which is unceasing. Thus, it is from emptiness. In this way, since emptiness and interdependent origination are inseparable, appearance dispels the extreme of existence, and emptiness dispels the extreme of non-existence. Appearance, which is without inherent existence, like the moon in water, is not other than emptiness. And karma is not other than emptiness. This should be examined with the reasoning of the fourfold union of emptiness. If the path of the three enlightenments, such as faith, which are the cause, are truly established, established by their own essence, established by their own characteristics, then they would not need to rely on an object. Moreover, there would be no interruption from others, and they could not perform the action of generating their fruit, enlightenment. If the state of the three enlightenments, which are the fruit, were truly established, etc., then cultivating the cause would not generate the fruit. The way to eliminate the two extremes is as follows: the cause does not transform into the fruit, nor is it produced, so it is free from the extreme of permanence. Relying on the cause that has gone before, the fruit is unceasing, so it is free from the extreme of annihilation. In short, all of these must be proven to be emptiness, emptiness is interdependent origination, and emptiness and interdependent origination are inseparable. Who then accumulates these karmas? In the Sutra of the Bhagavan, it is said: "It arises from conceptualization, but not from non-conceptualization." And in the Commentary on the Bodhicitta, it is said: "From worldly afflictions, karma arises. Karma arises from the mind. The mind is accumulated by habits. When habits are gone, there is happiness. The mind of happiness is peace itself." And in the Lankavatara Sutra, it is said: "The discriminating consciousness that takes hold is deep and subtle. All seeds flow like a stream. It is not right to conceive of a self. I have not fully shown this to children." The Great Omniscient One said: "Thus, actions in samsara and nirvana, etc., those four truths are interdependent origination. From what does it arise? It arises from the ultimate truth. How does it arise? From the truth of the nature of reality, the essence of which is pure from the beginning, all phenomena of worldly cause and effect are unfailing, just as clouds arise from the sky, waves arise from water, and light arises from the sun. Therefore, all worldly phenomena arise, and if there is no cause, they will not arise, but rather be produced.

Since the cause and effect of actions producing results is not self-established, if one can recognize the two truths of such conventional and ultimate without distinction, then from the perspective of the wisdom view being pure and unerring, one recognizes that cause and effect have acceptance and rejection, therefore one needs to accept and reject cause and effect. The Great Orgyen said: The view is higher than the sky, and the cause and effect of actions is finer than flour. Therefore, by accepting and rejecting cause and effect, the conduct of skillful means is purified, and in this way, through the union of the two accumulations or the union of the two truths, one attains the state of the union of the two bodies of the result. For beginners, because it does not exist in the ultimate sense, one cannot assume it does not exist, therefore one needs to accept and reject good and evil. The way to do this is through the three: mindfulness, awareness, and non-carelessness. First, mindfulness that does not forget the place of acceptance and rejection is like a gatekeeper; awareness that examines the three doors is like a sentinel; non-carelessness that is cautious and attentive to the place of acceptance and rejection is like a bride. Like these three shepherds, examine the actions of one's own three doors, especially examine this mind, because there are three kinds of thoughts: good, non-good, and neutral. If a non-good thought arises, strike the pig's nose with a wooden pestle, and burn the monkey to death with fire tongs. One must have the three methods of destroying thoughts. Up to this point, the cause and effect of actions is finished. Fourth, the cause and effect of actions.
