To explain in detail, there are six points. The first is: No matter where one goes, from samsara, temporarily from the burning pit of fire, feeling like escaping from the Avici hell with the door open. As soon as one sees a good puddle and shade, one immediately goes there. The unpurified fire burns, exceeding the knees. All the flesh is burned, and the bones turn white. After being reborn, one suffers greatly as before. Previously, in the iron house of Avici hell, because the suffering of heat was very severe, it was slightly lessened, feeling as if the door was opened, and after escaping, one sees a good puddle, as if with shade, and is chased by iron dogs, suffering. In the "Letter to a Disciple," it is written: Dogs with many matted hairs piled up, with long, sharp teeth, scrape the body like the tip of a vajra. The shore of an immeasurable river, filled with ashes and flames, steep and sharp stones, chase one in an unbearable place. It is written like this. Sinking into it, flesh and bones are burned, and then one is reborn. The second point is: Feeling that one has escaped from there, one sees a cool swamp, and as soon as one enters, one sinks into the rotten and foul-smelling swamp. Worms with iron, copper, and gold beaks pierce one. In the "Letter to a Disciple," it is written: Some small buzzing insects, their groups gnaw at the body, making it swollen and rotten. Those beings who live by karma and are bound in traps cannot even move, yet they live like this. It is written like this. The third point is: From then on, again seeing a pleasant plain, as soon as one arrives, one is cut into pieces by burning razors and then reborn. Also, in the same book, it is written: In a forest full of sharp razors, willow trees, and sword leaves, one runs wearily, the body wounded, with no place to escape. One falls into the iron-mouthed cave of Yama, filled with three-pronged spears, short spears, arrows, and sharp swords. It is written like this. The fourth point is: From then on, again going to a delightful forest, one is destroyed by the wind stirred up by the sword forest. How is it? In the same book, it is written: The body, scorched by the sun and difficult to endure, dejected by exhaustion, goes after seeing green and lush leaves. The leaves there fall like a hundred swords, the body losing control. There, one stays in smoke for a long time, losing friends. It is written like this. The fifth point is: Also, passing over that extremely delightful mountain peak, seeing the homeland that one used to call, as soon as one arrives, one is pierced through the flesh by sharp iron spikes.

The flesh is cut. When climbing up, vultures peck at the head. Again, it seems to be calling from the foot of the mountain. When falling down, the iron hook cuts upwards. On the edge of the plain grows a woman with sharp fangs. Embraced by flames, she is in great pain. Many dogs and jackals devour her. When he went to the place he thought was Mount Meru, there, where the former men and women each practiced the Dharma of sexual union, seeing relatives and connections, it seemed to be calling, and when he climbed, the iron hook cut the flesh and blood downwards. Likewise, when falling down, it cuts upwards, causing suffering. As it says in that very text: If one quickly climbs the unbearably tall Shalmali tree, the cluster of thorns faces downwards, scattering ashes, and the severe stinging will cause the mind to be lost. And again: If one falls downwards, the iron thorns face upwards, many rough and sharp things pierce the body, and memory is lost. There, some are pierced by burning tridents and sharp thorns, unable to push the body downwards. At that time, crows with beaks sharpened for grinding weapons pull in all directions, stretching and scattering intestines, stomachs, and chests. Some fall into the abyss of the mountain. Also, from all the women, hundreds of flames emerge. A garland of flames adorns them, and with bodies as rough as files, unable to escape, they embrace in a very painful manner. The sixth is, from then on, again seeing a cool river flowing, rejoicing and going towards it, as soon as one enters, the ashes reach the waist, flesh and bones are burned, and one sees the messengers of Yama guarding both cheeks. There, one suffers for many thousands of years. As it says in the Remembrance Sutra: As he went along like that, the thought of a river arose, and as soon as he crossed it, the water reached his waist, and the flesh was burned, and the bones were broken and separated, and then they were restored, and on the cheeks, it seemed that the messengers of Yama, who had previously frolicked, were guarding him. The twelfth is the advice to turn away from that suffering, as it is said: Tormented by great heat and suffering, who would not fear such a hell? In existence, there are countless such sufferings. Having understood the nature

Seeking the means to attain. Thus it was taught. There are three types of cold hells. First, the eight cold hells are described: Now, the suffering of cold is described. There are also eight types of debilitation due to cold. In extremely cold places like snow and ice. The body is stiffened by the onslaught of dark blizzards. Those with frostbite and those with burst frostbite. Teeth chatter from the cold, groaning and saying "Achu." "Aiyo," like a lotus cracked like an উৎপལ་ flower, and in the wounds cracked like a large lotus. There are creatures with sharp, burning beaks that devour. It will not move until the end of karma is reached. The cold of snow and ice, and the dark and cold black winds assail and afflict. The body develops frostbite, and the frostbite bursts into wounds. Only able to say "Achu" a little, saying "Aiyo." Teeth chattering, unable to make a sound. The wound is like an উৎপལ་ flower, with thin roots and large petals, turned inside out. Cracking into four petals like a lotus, and cracking into eight petals like a large lotus. Creatures enter and devour the wounds connected by thin water veins. The suffering of cold is immeasurable. In the Letter of Instruction, it says: The biting wind is so severe that it freezes even the bones. The body is stiff and trembling, making a "shang" sound, huddled up. Hundreds of frostbites appear, and creatures born from the burst ones. Cut with knives, pus and blood flow together. Unbearable pain, teeth chattering, hair and fur standing on end. Eyes and ears and other hidden places are damaged, suffering torment. The space between body and mind becomes empty. Dwelling in the cold hell, crying out in extreme pain. That's how it is. Second, the length of life is described: The length of life of the eight hells that suffer like this. The length of life is a khala of Kosala. From a container holding twenty tens. One sesame seed is taken out every hundred years until it is exhausted. The life of the frostbite hell remains twenty. Also, in the Mindfulness Sutra, it says: For example, measured by the bre of the city of Kosala, a container filled with sesame seeds, holding twenty tens, completely filled without gaps. From the frostbite hell, one sesame seed is taken out every hundred years until it is exhausted. At that time, know that the beings of the frostbite hell will die. The other hells are twenty times more painful than that.

So it is said. In accordance with this, the Treasury also says: "A hundred years pass within a sesame store, when one sesame seed is taken out, it is exhausted, this is the lifespan of a water bubble being, the lifespan of others is twenty." So it is said. Third, advising to strive for a way to escape from that: Having contemplated the immeasurable suffering of heat and cold, advise: "In order for sentient beings to overcome the hell realms, generate the strength of diligence." In the Friendly Epistle it says: "The interval of time for a sinful person's breath to cease, is the hell realm, having heard of other sufferings, who is fearless like a vajra? Seeing, hearing, remembering, reading, and even creating the form of hell, if fear arises, what need is there to mention those who experience unbearable karmic results?" Such is the way. Explaining the suffering of the pretas, there are three parts: First, dwelling in the environment: Now, explaining the suffering of the pretas. Pretas dwell in the environment by wandering in the cities of the environment. The body is large, the limbs are thin, and the belly is wide. The throat is thin, and the mouth is as small as the eye of a needle. They cannot find food or drink, and are tormented by burning hunger and thirst. Seeing medicinal trees, flowers, etc., they wither. The external environment is unpleasant, and they eat disgusting vomit. Even when they see food and drink, it appears to be guarded, or due to internal obscurations, fire burns in their stomachs, and flames and smoke are emitted from their mouths. Due to common obscurations, they are tormented by poverty and fear. In a miserable place, they are helpless and suffer. Among them, those who dwell in the environment, those with external obscurations, because the external environment is unpleasant, they cannot obtain what they desire, their bodies are ugly, they eat disgusting vomit, and even when they see food and drink, it appears to be guarded, or they wither as soon as they approach, and so they suffer. Those with internal obscurations, on top of that, fire burns in their stomachs and smoke billows out. Those with common obscurations, on top of those, also have the common suffering of poverty, destitution, hunger, thirst, ugly appearance, incomplete senses, constant fear of being harmed by others, and no protector for refuge. As it is said, in the Letter to a Student it says: "Unbearable thirst sees a pure river from afar, wanting to drink"
