Endowed with supreme wisdom. Having attained two kinds of accomplishments through twelve hardships. The venerable five-knowledge paṇḍita Nāropa. I pray to you, bless my lineage. Surely the desired fruit will arise. Do not waver, yogi. As it is said, having practiced the twelve hardships. First, the first three purified the obscurations of the body. The meaning of the vase empowerment arose in the lineage. Then, the three purified the obscurations of speech. The secret empowerment was obtained. Then, the three purified the obscurations of mind. The wisdom empowerment was obtained. Then, the three purified the impurities of equality. The fourth was obtained. Finally, the wisdom of the signified meaning became manifest, thus the two kinds of accomplishments were obtained. The twelve hardships are: As it appears in the extensive biography, practicing according to the guru's instructions, accepting without regard for life. As it is said in the collected works of the thirteenth Je: As an example of the disciple's diligence, Nāropa's twelve great hardships are: First, jumping from the top of the castle, Bestowing the wish-fulfilling jewel of vows. Seventh, stealing the minister's wife, Bestowing the instructions on transference without meditation. Eighth, taking one's own wife, Bestowing the clarification of self-awareness wisdom. Ninth, being struck by a vajra hammer, Bestowing the instructions on the great bliss of the lower gate. Tenth, offering one's wife to the guru, Bestowing the instructions on the introduction to the bardo. Eleventh, making a bridge of lotus mud, Bestowing the instructions on the inner heat of one's own body. Twelfth, offering a great maṇḍala on the plain, The light of experience and realization dawned. Practicing as the guru said, Obtaining the supreme accomplishment in one lifetime. As it is said. The venerable five-knowledge paṇḍita, is the well-known guardian of the northern gate, one of the six wise ones. The essence of the Dharma is Vajra.
