The Five-Limbed Mahamudra Instruction Manual by Kunkhyen Chökyi Jungne The Five-Limbed Mahamudra Instruction Manual by Kunkhyen Chökyi Jungne The Five-Limbed Mahamudra Instruction Manual by Kunkhyen Chökyi Jungne is present. Namo Śrī guruve (藏文,梵文天城体,Śrī guruve,Homage to the glorious guru). With countless plays of existence and peace, The unchanging, primordially accomplished Vajrasattva. To the unadulterated, innate state of the Lama, Having bowed, I will write the essential instructions of Mahamudra. That is, the preliminary practice of purifying Bodhicitta, and The deity of Yidam and the contemplation of the Lama, and The main practice of resting in equipoise in Mahamudra, And the subsequent dedication to seal it, all of these are For the sake of practicing completely in each session, It is widely known as the Five-Limbed Mahamudra. Among these, the first, the Practice of purifying Bodhicitta is, relative Bodhicitta itself, and that also has, Like wanting to go and actually going, The aspiration and application, aspiration Bodhicitta is, All sentient beings, there are none who have not been mothers, Though they want happiness, they do not know the means of happiness, They only engage in evil, therefore they wander in Samsara, For them, constantly meditate on all-encompassing love and compassion, And with that meaning, from the heart, aspire to accomplish Enlightenment oneself. Application Bodhicitta is the cause of accomplishing Buddhahood, The six or ten Paramitas, and those also, Are included in the two accumulations, therefore discipline is, The accumulation of merit, insight is the accumulation of wisdom, Calm abiding and contemplation belong to both, Thinking to accomplish these without laziness, With a vow and intention, is to accomplish single-pointedly. The second is to contemplate one's own body as the deity of Yidam, Whether there is a specific deity of Yidam or not is fine, Contemplate the four-armed Lord of the World, and Transform appearances, sounds, and the three realms into the path through the deity, mantra, and Samadhi, Abandoning ordinary clinging. The third, on the crown of one's head, clear as the deity, Resides on a lotus and moon seat, the root Lama, Is the great Vajradhara, the embodiment of all refuges, Visualize being surrounded by the Kagyu Lamas, And through the compassionate power of the Buddhas of the three times, Without a Lama, the minds of those to be tamed will not ripen. Especially for those whose power of the Buddhas has weakened, Even those beings of the degenerate age who have become wild, From the moment a single virtuous thought arises, The skillful means of the way

The benefits of doing so are beyond number. Therefore, think of it as equal to all Buddhas, or even more, and pray with one-pointedness. Finally, after receiving the empowerment three times, the lama dissolves into light and merges into oneself. The three vajras and one's own three doors, thinking they are inseparable, rest in an unfabricated, natural state. Fourth, the actual practice of Mahamudra, there are two aspects: understanding and practice. First, the nature of all phenomena of appearance and existence, samsara and nirvana, is the dharmadhatu, which is primordially pure. It is profound and clear, non-dual, free from extremes, and unconditioned. This is called the first Buddha, and is also widely known as the cause, lineage, the nature of Mahamudra, and the Tathagatagarbha. In that very nature, which is pure like space, due to the sudden arising of conceptual thoughts, clinging to self and self-possession, ignorance, and so on, the wheel of samsara is formed according to the law of dependent origination. When the lama reveals the self-nature of this, and one knows that the root of samsara is self-grasping, and the root of that is conceptual thought, just as smoke naturally disappears when a fire is extinguished, meditating on emptiness, which is the abandonment of conceptual thought, is the supreme path to liberation, and the means to realize that very thing. In mantra, the generation stage, prana practice, tummo, and so on, are taught in many ways, and in sutra, various objects of focus for shamatha, the determination of vipashyana, and so on, are taught in countless ways. Why is that? Because without realizing emptiness, it is impossible to transcend samsara and attain Buddhahood. Therefore, whatever dharma the Buddhas have taught, it is said that it inclines and flows towards emptiness. The noble ones are liberated by meditating on emptiness, and that is the meaning of surpassing other meditations. In this way, when abandoning conceptual thoughts and meditating, some non-Buddhists think that non-conceptuality is the supreme self, and engage in meditation with wrong views, and the non-conceptual samadhi is said to be the Huashang school, initially preventing shamatha, and later most of the famous great ones say to practice the chain of conceptual thoughts, and so on, completely abandoning meditation with defilements, adorned with the words of the Buddhas and the instructions of the lineage, not just in words, but through experiential guidance, those fortunate ones who have experience, the union of samadhi and wisdom, is the path, the essence of the Sugata, the tantra of means, and the truth of the path.
