Sapa said: The drum sound mentioned here should be understood as belonging to the category of ordinary celestial musical instruments other than the great drum. This treatise is an extensive explanation of the preceding "all beings." The previous treatise, with just one verse, explains the distinguishing characteristics of the great drum from ordinary musical instruments. One might think that the great drum is not heard by humans and others who dwell on the earth, so it belongs to "not reaching the ears of those who dwell on the earth." But this is not the case. Because the four seals of Dharma and all the exhortations arising from the sound of the great celestial drum, which are urged by the gods due to their carelessness, are heard by us nowadays, and we are talking about them, so do not contradict yourself. This is how it is explained. Similarly, the countless different forms of celestial musical instruments in the heavens are played to increase the fire of attachment to the pleasures of desire, so they are not beneficial. However, the Buddhas, who are of the nature of great compassion and perfectly enlightened, with just one kind of speech melody, can completely pacify the fire of suffering and its roots for those fortunate beings, thereby attaining the peace of nirvana. Therefore, it is also more excellent because it is beneficial. In the heavens, the beautifully adorned and pleasing sounds of various musical instruments only increase the mind's wildness and distraction, so they are not happiness. However, the speech of the Tathagatas, who are of the nature of great compassion, causes disciples to focus their minds on meditation and samadhi, and encourages contemplation, so it is happiness. Therefore, it is also more excellent. In short, celestial musical instruments do not necessarily bring liberation. In all the realms of the world, whatever causes gods and humans and others dwelling on the earth to abandon suffering and increase great, undefiled bliss is the Buddha's speech melody, which pervades all the realms of the world through the three miracles. Therefore, one should rely on it greatly, because it certainly brings liberation, so it is also more excellent. Here is a verse.

Homage. Whether it is temporary or not, whether it is beneficial or not, whether it is comfortable or not, whether it is certain to give or not, these are explained in detail. Sixth is, just as if the ear is deaf, subtle sounds are not heard, and even in the ears of all the gods, it is as if they do not enter the ear canal. Similarly, the subtle and profound Dharma is only the realm of subtle wisdom, and only some minds without afflictions can enter its ear canal. Thus it is said. For example, just as if the ear faculty is deaf, subtle sounds are not heard or perceived, similarly, those who are without merit cannot hear the Buddha's melodious voice, and all the differences in sound, even if the gods have obtained divine ears, do not enter their ear canals, only a few can enter. Similarly, the Buddha's subtle and profound Dharma is only the realm of subtle wisdom, but it is not that all beings to be tamed can enter their ear canals. Only those with minds free from afflictions, with outstanding wisdom, and with great merit can enter their ear canals. Third, explaining how all are embraced by compassion through examples, there are five points: briefly explaining the meaning of the cloud analogy, explaining that meaning in detail, the way vessels are transformed, entering effortlessly, and combining the Dharma that eliminates suffering. The first is, just as clouds in the summer season are the cause of abundant crops, effortlessly pouring down a large amount of water, constantly falling on the earth. Similarly, from the clouds of compassion, the Buddha's sacred Dharma falls like rain, which is the cause of abundant merit in the beings' minds, falling without discrimination. Thus it is said. For example, in the summer season, clouds are the cause of abundant crops, effortlessly pouring down a large amount of rainwater, constantly falling on the earth. Similarly, from the clouds of compassion of the Buddhas, the rain of the sacred Dharma is the cause of abundant merit in the beings' minds, falling without discrimination. The second is divided into two: showing the meaning of the analogy and explaining its meaning through the similarity of the Dharma. The first is, just as when the world enters the path of virtue, wind-born water and rain are brought down by clouds, similarly, the wind of compassion, in order to make the beings' merit manifest and increase, the Buddha's clouds bring down the rain of the sacred Dharma. Thus it is said. Like
