Therefore, it is said that these (faults) are proclaimed to eliminate them. Thus it is said. The reason why the meaning of the earlier and later sutras does not contradict will be explained below. The necessity of proclaiming the existence of the Tathagatagarbha in the Tathagatagarbha Sutra and other sutras is explained by this treatise. Therefore, it is necessary to proclaim that sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha of the Buddha, that is, to eliminate the obstacles to one's own diligence in Bodhi—discouragement, and the obstacles to caring for others—despising inferior sentient beings, and not clinging to the true reality but clinging to it in a reversed way, and slandering the true Dharma—the Tathagatagarbha, and especially clinging to oneself. It is said for the purpose of eliminating the faults of those who have these five faults. Second, the detailed explanation is divided into three parts: the meaning of how the intermediate sutras are taught; the reason for teaching the realm at the end; and the detailed explanation of it. The first part is divided into two parts: brief explanation and detailed explanation. The first is: The true limit is by the conditioned, all aspects are empty, the meaning of afflictions, karma and ripening, is said to be like clouds and so on. Thus it is said. What is the intention of proclaiming that all dharmas are without self-nature in the intermediate sutras? It is aimed at the true limit of reality, which is empty of all aspects by the conditioned and sudden defilements. The afflictions of afflictions, the afflictions of karma, and the aggregates of the ripening of those karma and afflictions, etc., appear as real afflictions that arise, but are not truly established, like clouds, dreams, illusions, and transformations. The second is: Afflictions are like clouds, actions are done, karma is like enjoyment in a dream, the various ripenings of afflictions and karma, aggregates are like illusions and transformations. Thus it is said. The defilements of afflictions such as desire are like clouds, because they pervade the nature of the mind like the sky and are sudden; the actions of non-virtue etc. caused by desire etc., that is, the defilements of karma, are like enjoyment in a dream, born of reversed and confused thoughts, and are illusory objects; the ripening fruits of afflictions and karma, that is, the defilements arising from the aggregates etc.

Afflictions are like illusions and manifestations, because they depend on conditions and lack truth. Second, the reason for teaching the element at the end is: Having established it in that way before, again in this lineage of the Guru, in order to abandon the five faults, it is taught that there is indeed an element. It is said that in order to gradually guide the beings to be tamed, when the first Dharma wheel of the four truths was turned, some appeared to cling to forms and so on as truly existing. In order to abandon that clinging, previously, when the middle Dharma wheel of no characteristics was turned, it was said that all dharmas are emptiness, and although they appear, they have no self-nature, like clouds, dreams, and illusions. Having thus made the establishment of mainly teaching no self-nature, diligence will not be abandoned by that alone, so again, by teaching the most profound meaning, since the Guru or the last of the three wheels teaches the Dharma wheel of ultimate meaning determination, therefore it is the latter. Since it teaches that the realm of Dharma is constant and uninterrupted, therefore, like the tantra, at this time of teaching the ultimate meaning, in order to abandon the five faults such as discouragement and to obtain the qualities such as joy, the element is naturally pure, and the Tathagatagarbha is universally present in all. Thus, it is taught very clearly in many ways, such as through metaphors and reasons. Third, the detailed explanation of this is divided into two: how the five faults arise, and how virtues are obtained by abandoning the five faults. The first is: Thus, if this is not heard, due to the fault of despising oneself, some become discouraged, and Bodhicitta will not arise. Whoever has Bodhicitta arisen, if he thinks that I am the best, then he will strongly generate the thought of inferiority towards those who have not generated Bodhicitta. Such a person will not generate correct wisdom, therefore he clings to the incorrect, and he will not believe in the correct meaning. Because it is false and temporary, the faults of sentient beings are not real. The real fault is selflessness, and the virtue is self-nature purity. Clinging to unreal faults and slandering real virtues, the wise will not obtain the love of seeing themselves and sentient beings equally. It is said that, thus, the Buddha
