It is happiness to practice asceticism in harmony. Thus it is said. Bodhisattvas also have five. Where to take vows? Like individual liberation, wherever the Bodhisattva resides, that is the place. As for the number, all the number of trainings of the Bodhisattva, such as the twenty vows, are to abandon the four root downfalls and forty-six evil deeds. According to the Sutra of the Essence of Space, take fourteen or nineteen vows. Or take the three trainings of discipline. Or all the practices of the Bodhisattva's practice are included in the six perfections, etc., which are infinite. What should be abandoned? Abandoning the faults of the mind, harming others is common to the Hearers, but here the main thing is to abandon the inferior mind that cannot accomplish benefiting others. By what means to take vows? By means of the initiation ceremony of generating the mind of enlightenment in the presence of a virtuous friend or a support. The nature of the vow itself is to be happy by it, that is: To the one who has the supreme precious jewel of the mind, I prostrate to the body of the one who is born, and to the source of happiness who, even if harmed, is connected to happiness, I take refuge. Thus it is said. The generation stage also has five. The place is where the practitioner himself resides in meditative equipoise, that is, where he takes vows, such as where to meditate as stated in the sadhanas. In the subsequent conduct, it is on top of where the objects of appearance exist. The number is to include all external dharmas within, such as the five senses and five objects in one aggregate of form, and each of them has inconceivable things such as before and after moments, but all of them are included in the nature of one all-pervading, and so on. What should be abandoned is ordinary conceptual thought. The means is first by the vase initiation, and then by the means of meditating on the outer and inner generation stages. The nature of the vow itself is to be happy by it, as the Guhyasamaja Tantra says: Therefore, the mandala is called a wheel, this method is the vow of happiness. Thus it is said. The fourth, the completion stage, also has five. The place is generally the four chakras at the time of self-blessing, and especially at the place of the Aṃ (ཨཾ,aṃ,seed syllable,Amitabha) at the navel chakra. At the time of the mandala wheel, it is the place of initiation. The number is all external dharmas.
