A Supplement to the Differentiation of the Three Vows, A Well-Spoken Elucidation Illuminating the Three: Basis, Path, and Result, Called The Light of Illumination. A Supplement to the Differentiation of the Three Vows, A Well-Spoken Elucidation Illuminating the Three: Basis, Path, and Result. A Supplement to the Differentiation of the Three Vows, A Well-Spoken Elucidation Illuminating the Three: Basis, Path, and Result, Called The Light of Illumination, is Present. The so-called Supplement to the Differentiation of the Three Vows, A Well-Spoken Elucidation Illuminating the Three: Basis, Path, and Result, To the venerable Lama, those endowed with great compassion, and especially to the supreme deity, the protector Manjushri, I respectfully prostrate. Qualities spontaneously accomplished, abiding as the basis of the Dharmadhatu; The path that clears away the stains of obscurations; The result of transformation, freedom, and complete maturation; To that indivisible essence, I respectfully bow. Relying on the words of the Victorious Ones and authoritative treatises, And on the unerring instructions of the holy ones, This illumination clarifying the three: basis, path, and result, I explain with love for the benefit of impartial others. The naturally luminous, clear essence of crystal, From the transformation by the colors of habitual patterns, Appearing in various temporary states, Its essence is the basis of all samsara and nirvana. The three vehicles of discipline are like iron, copper, and silver; With the essence of vidyadhara, the great secret's, The practice of transforming into gold, Is the supreme path for clearing away impurities. Transformation, like the sky, the result of freedom, From the arising of the moon of qualities, In the pure water of those to be tamed, The appearance of the Form Body is the result. In the basis, with the distinctions of philosophical tenets, The seeds of uncontaminated mental factors, And the differences of the six sense sources, etc., Although there is desire, they are all compounded. Here, the compassionate protector Nagarjuna, Holds that luminosity, continuity, and non-cessation, Empty of the elaborations of the four extremes, The union is uncompounded. Moreover, in the Great Vehicle's Uttaratantra, The qualities of the basis, path, and result, The completeness of all aspects, Is established as existent by three proofs. Determined by ten categories. The manner of obscuration by impurities is shown by nine examples. With enlightenment, qualities, and activities, The particularities of the state of the result are explained. From the collections of reasoning of Nagarjuna's feet, With dependent arising, the elaborations of the four extremes, Having established the manner of emptiness by reasoning, It is said that emptiness is suitable for action. From the collection of praises,

Even I, having abandoned what is as if nothing, the spontaneously accomplished mind-essence of samsara and nirvana, therefore it is said to be feasible and workable. Therefore, in the view of the basis of the Great Vehicle Madhyamaka's tenets, these two founders, prophesied by the Regent Victors, have the same intention. The Dharmadhatu with defilements, the Thusness, the radiant Tathagatagarbha, and the pure nature of mind, etc., are taught by many names. The Lankavatara Sutra, the Dense Array Sutra, the Yoga Empowerment Instructions, and the glorious Chandrakirti, etc., also consider the term Alaya to refer to this. In the profound tantras, Manjushri (འཇམ་དཔལ་, Mañjuśrī, Gentle Glory), the Great Innate Wisdom (ཡེ་ཤེས་ཆེན་པོ་ལྷན་སྐྱེས་, ye shes chen po lhan skyes, Great Innate Wisdom), Vajra Vajrasattva (རྡོ་རྗེ་རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའ་དཔལ།, rdo rje rdo rje sems dpa' dpal, Diamond Diamond Hero), Samantabhadra (ཀུན་བཟང་, Samantabhadra, All Good), and so on, are spoken of countless times. Nowadays, some who only utter words, self-proclaimed scholars who hold onto the marvelous, think that merely refuting truth with reasoning on the defiled mind is the essence. To negate this very thing as having substance, it is labeled as "space," and to negate the ability to pierce the head, it is like labeling it as "hornless." Merely severing what is to be negated by conceptualization, since it is other-emptiness, if it is not the reality, how could it be the self-existing lineage and the Tathagatagarbha? How is samsara complete in this? How is the path cultivated in this? How does the result arise in this? Abandon this net of evil thoughts! Some consider the emptiness and clarity of mind to be the unconditioned and conditioned, with their own self-existing lineages established separately. This too should be examined for a while. In order to accomplish union, if it is temporarily a way of straightening the crooked, then there is no contradiction, because union requires both limbs. Otherwise, if it is a definitive meaning, then the self-existing lineage is conditioned, and accepting it as such is the tenet of the Realists, which is not in the tenet of the Madhyamikas. Some think that the essence of all dharmas exists in each of them, therefore the Tathagatagarbha exists in the Tathagatas, but not in the continuum of sentient beings. Saying that it exists in sentient beings, the great master Sakya Pandita, through the three Dharma doors, judges it as provisional, thus engaging in imputation. This transcends the two expressions of worldly treatises, just as the essence of a snake exists in the snake itself, and the essence of ghee exists in the ghee itself, therefore sandalwood snake heart and ghee are the essence of milk.
