Entering into the True Meaning of the Relevant Treatise Entering into the True Meaning of the Relevant Treatise Fourth, entering into the true meaning of the relevant treatise has three aspects: the preliminary of entering into the subject matter, the Prajnaparamita, which is praise; the preliminary of entering into the expression, the treatise, which is the explanation of the necessity; and the subject matter of the treatise, which is the explanation of the Abhisamayalankara. The first is "Those seeking peace, the Hearers," etc., which has three aspects: how the Noble One distinguished it; how the Teacher explained it; and identifying the key points. The first is: In the Abhisamaya, "Having empowered all the Noble Ones, and placing the uncommon qualities of the three omniscient ones in front, therefore, I prostrate to the Prajnaparamita." This statement is thinking of explaining and combining the key instructions of its Abhisamayalankara, so it will be liberated, which is the vow to combine this explanation of the Abhisamayalankara. What is the purpose? "The path of all-knowingness," etc., is the necessity of undertaking the task. Thus, the verse of prostration placed nearby has the meaning of truly representing it. Thus it is said. Which Abhisamayalankara is summarized by the basis, or summarized by the antidote, is it that it is adorned by summarizing the aspects? This should be said. What will it become from that? If it is like the first way, then the effort is meaningless. Thus and so on it is said. This has three aspects: direct teaching, indirect teaching, and implied meaning. The first is the Noble One, etc., the first three lines of praise speak of the uncommon qualities of the three wisdoms, and the fourth line takes this as a guide, so prostration to the Prajnaparamita is the direct teaching. The second is its Abhisamayalankara, etc., the vow to compose the Abhisamayalankara of that Prajnaparamita is the indirect teaching. Third, inferring from the indirect teaching, what is the necessity? What subject matter is summarized to make it an ornament? The answer to the first is to present the text of necessary connection. For the second, the subject matter of the treatise must be any of the three: basis, antidote, or aspect, so the basis

Is it that the Adornment is made by collecting only the base (dbyigs) as the object to be expressed? Or is it by collecting only the antidote (gnyen po) as the object to be expressed? Or is it that the Adornment is made by collecting only the aspect (rnam pa) as the object to be expressed? For these three cases, if it is like the first case, then "there are faults" etc., this is refutation. And "there is no fault in collecting all three aspects of base, antidote, and aspect as the object to be expressed," this is the answer. Some say from the Two Appearances (nyir snang) and the Great Commentary (grel chen) that these texts of refutation and answer appear under the necessity and connection, therefore it is an explanation of necessity and connection, this is the fault of not understanding this kind of explanation. Secondly, the way the teacher explains is that when the Adornment explains the Sutra, it also has the quintessence of five methods of explanation, and relying on it, the teacher Vasubandhu also spoke of the quintessence of five methods of explanation to explain the meaning of the Sutra, following which the teacher also thinks to explain the Adornment of Realization through the quintessence of five methods of explanation. First, apply all five to the praise, then combine the necessity, explanation, purpose, and connection, only combine the meaning of the words, and sometimes also combine the refutation and answer. Among them, Youthful Discipline (gzhon nu tshul khrims) started the beginning of the praise with "Noble Maitreya (phags pa byams pa)" etc., and then it is inappropriate to apply the five methods of explanation to the root words himself, because the five methods of explanation must be determined in the teacher's own explanation. Therefore, due to necessity, the connection is mentioned first, that is, "Noble Maitreya himself" etc., placing the connection in the previous explanation is the style of this commentary, and it is necessary to explain that the order of meaning of the connection does not contradict, because this treatise explains the necessity of showing the praise first in the order of the scriptures, that is, temporarily first, like praising the qualities, explaining in the manner of praising the mother in advance etc. For the latter four branches, most of the previous wise men used "this verse is" etc. to express the necessity, used "for it, the three omnisciences are" etc. to express the summarized meaning, used "the exhortation of the hearers and their direction" etc. to express the meaning of the words, and used "thus prostrating" etc. to express the refutation and answer.
