I. The very nature of being suchness exists in things that are not established. Among them, the first is like fire preventing cold touch; the second is like smoke preventing cold touch; the third is like the absence of fire preventing smoke; the fourth is like not seeing a visible pot preventing a visible pot. Because the perception of contradictory nature and the non-perception of nature are shown as valid cognizers, therefore, sequentially, like fire preventing the touch of hail, it is the perception of the pervasive contradiction; like blocking wood prevents eating meat, it should also be known that the non-perception of the pervasive is a valid cognizer. Third, if the effect of fire can prevent cold touch, then can placing the cause of fire as a sign also similarly prevent cold touch? If the actual cause of fire is placed as a sign, the pervasion cannot be determined, and if only the cause is placed as a sign, then the cause of fire that contradicts cold touch, that is, the argument of perceiving firewood as a sign, that subject, is one with a mistaken pervasion, because any argument of firewood as the cause of fire preventing cold touch, any firewood that is the reason for fire, if it does not have a nature that contradicts cold touch, that is, because it does not exist. This shows that when the reason contradicts, there is a case of becoming a valid cognizer, like the distinction of approaching the burning fire, preventing the cold effect of hair standing on end, it is the perception of the nature that contradicts the cause; like smoke preventing the cold effect of hair standing on end, it shows the perception of the effect that contradicts the cause as two valid cognizers. Thus, adding to the previous six, here eight are mentioned. In the Pramāṇavārttika, on top of that, adding the absence of smoke, like preventing the actual cause of smoke, which is the non-perception of the actual effect, and like fire preventing the actual cause of cold touch, which is the perception of the nature that contradicts the effect, these two, a total of ten are mentioned. If only the cause of fire cannot prevent cold touch, then only the effect of fire cannot similarly prevent cold touch, if you think so, then the effect of fire that contradicts cold touch, the subject. When you prevent cold touch in some places, you also want to rely on the fire that is your cause, the place where that fire is close, and that time, etc., like the smoke that bends inappropriately, because you may prevent cold touch in some places, and because it is distinguished by place, time, etc., otherwise cold touch

Because it will be confused on the basis. For example, if the absence of cold touch, i.e., the absence of cold sensation, is established on the basis, it is like establishing the opposite result as a sign. Furthermore, the fruit sign is summarized by "again," which is Shakya's. The Brahmin says that not only is the opposite cause not an object of cognition, but also the opposite result is not merely a sign; there must be a distinction. The determination of the number three is explained in detail. The second has two parts: refuting the view that the real is something else, and refuting the view that the apparent is real. The first has two parts: inferring the possibility of arising from a collection is nature, and inferring form, etc., from taste is the effect sign. The first is: if the valid sign is determined to be three, then how is the inference of the possibility of a result arising from a collection of causes included in the three signs? The complete collection of causes for a sprout is posited as a sign, and from that, the complete collection of causes for a sprout that can produce the result, a sprout, is inferred. This, the complete collection of causes for a sprout, is the subject. On the basis, establishing the possibility of a sprout arising as a result is a reason of nature, because it is a valid sign of establishment. The possibility of a sprout arising is said to be your nature, because the possibility of a sprout arising does not depend on a cause other than your cause, but arises from your immediate cause. If so, why is the definite arising of a result not inferred from a collection of causes? The mere complete collection of causes for a sprout, which has become the cause of a sprout, is the subject. That you are it, establishing the definite arising of the result, a sprout, on your own subject, is uncertain in pervasion, because your production of the result, a sprout, is related to the fact that the powers that have become your result become increasingly superior, that is, dependent on change. There is pervasion, because there is the possibility of obstacles occurring in between. The second is: if so, how is the reason for inferring form, etc., from the sign of taste that has not become a cause and effect included in the three signs? The taste of sugarcane that exists now is the subject. That form, touch, etc., which depend on you and a single collection of substantial causes, are cognized on the basis from your sign, depends on the effect sign, because you actually infer on the basis the power of your previous taste, which is the cause, to produce the present form.
