Just as sentient beings in the world do not know their own skandhas, realms, and sources, and the tenets they do not have, without a teacher. Similarly, even if the rules of prefixes and suffixes of letters exist in the minds of all speakers, they do not know the very nature of the meaning to be expressed, how can they know how to combine it in accordance with it by studying the meaning? They cannot know. Therefore, thinking that it should not become the above fault, the Lord of Speech (Manjushri) said, "May all subsequent learners understand these." This is what is said. This commentary on the entrance to the signs of grammar, which clearly explains the meaning in concise words, was written by the wise Sonam Senge, relying on the good explanations of previous scholars, for the benefit of himself and others.
