(1) The realization of the venerable and glorious Mahakala, which accomplishes all purposes, subdues evil influences, cuts off hatred, and clarifies the activities of burning away, is called the 'Unfailing Banner of the Doctrine.' (2) Shri Vajra Mahakala Uttara Bhya, The body of bliss-emptiness-wisdom bindu abides coextensive with the limits of space. The great indestructible and profound vajra Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Hūṃ) is established as the life force of all existence and peace. The mind of equality, liberated from all characteristics, is the mandala of love, constant and vast. May the glorious lama, the embodiment of all Buddhas, the venerable Mahakala, protect us. Agitated by the conceptual thoughts that arise in response to beings, Adorned with the armor of love, holding various emanated weapons, Vanquishing the battlefields of demons, afflictions, and pride, a terrifying form. May the great Mahakala, unparalleled in the three realms, now subdue evil influences! With waves of rippling wrathful frowns, The vast ocean of your face is fully manifest. With my eyes of good faith, May I see you completely from all directions! Any yogi who has received empowerment into the mandala of the glorious Mahakala (3), And whose teacher, abiding by their vows, has received permission from their own lama, In order to accomplish benefits for themselves and others, enters into the practice of the activities of the great mandala, the ritual of which is in accordance with the intentions of the root and lineage gurus. The Indian treatises that explain these intentions by accomplished masters, and the face-to-face instructions passed down from great masters such as Arnapa, and especially the instructions given by Guru Padmasambhava to the prince Sadna Lek, As well as those transmitted from the Kama Kagyu and Terma traditions, and the essence of all the pith instructions passed down from the all-pervading Vajradhara to the successive Dharma Kings Karmapas, father and son, from mouth to mouth, ear to ear, and heart to heart, is condensed into the heart essence of the mandala ritual, which is extensively explained in five parts: the preliminary preparations, the main practice, the subsequent sequence, and the supplementary meanings. Of these, the first part, the preliminary sequence, has four parts: the place where the practice is to be done (4), the time to begin the practice, how to prepare the necessary materials, the yogi's attire, and the explanation of the intention.

In the Mantra Chapter of the Great Cemetery Tantra, it says: "Whoever wishes to accomplish the glorious Great Black One should go to the place of the great cemetery, a place where spirits and corpses gather." Its commentary says: "A hero who has been empowered in the mandala of the Great Black One, having received permission from the guru, will accomplish his desires." Therefore, wishing for the nature of accomplishment, one should go to places such as the great cemetery. In the Chapter on Deities, it says: "Furthermore, go to places such as cemeteries, places where spirits gather." Then, go to a cemetery on the bank of a river in the north, or a solitary tree in the east, or a cemetery where corpses are burned in the south, or an empty house of dakinis in the west, or an island in the ocean in the northwest, or the peak of a mountain in the northeast, or the place where Mahadeva dwells in the southeast, or a dark forest with sandalwood trees in the southwest. The commentary says: "Cemeteries and so forth refer to cemeteries, solitary trees, empty houses, islands in the ocean, single symbols, fierce riverbanks, and places of battle; practice in these places." As it is said. Therefore, in places that are in accordance with these, or far from evil people, and families with impure and inferior vows, in practice places blessed by the guru, and auspicious Dharma wheels, and pleasant places, it is also acceptable. In the Tantra of the Origin of Accomplishments, it says: "In perfect places." As it is said, in places that are in accordance with this, one should begin this ritual. Secondly, in the Fiftieth Chapter, the Chapter on Determining Accomplishments, of the Great Black One Tantra, it says: "On the eighth of the dark fortnight of the small winter month, the fifth of the dark fortnight of the small spring month, and the fourteenth of the dark fortnight of the summer month and the small autumn month, one should begin the ritual." As it is said, it should be determined. Thirdly, the place where it is done should be clean and pleasing, decorated with powdered colors or a mandala painted on cloth. If these are not available, use painted piles, or a thangka with consecration. Or display blessed objects made of wood from the cemetery, etc., and in front of it, as it appears in the instructions, arrange offering tormas, food offerings, red triangular tormas, and square pointed tormas.
