This is a detailed explanation of the teachings of Ksitigarbha. The vehicle that takes the result as the path is that one gains certainty through faith in the teachings of the sutras, etc., regarding the Buddha-nature in one's own mindstream, and engages with attachment in the practice of believing and meditating on that as the Buddha of the result, then the connection will not deceive. The mindstream of sentient beings can accumulate the two accumulations and purify the two obscurations through the stages of generation and completion, thereby attaining Buddhahood. Fortunate individuals of sudden enlightenment, such as the Great Seal of Meaning lineage, the transference of blessings, the father and son Saraha and Shavari, etc., and the teachings of the Kagyu lineage of the glorious Gampopa, are those to whom the realized lama points out the Buddha-nature that exists in their own mindstream, like a treasure beneath the earth or a wish-fulfilling jewel in the hands of a giant, as something that is inherently present. When unbearable devotion blazes in one's mind towards such a nature that possesses all the qualities of the Buddha, and one desires to manifest it, and it becomes one's own manifestation, then the primordial Buddha who abides primordially, generates devotion like a summer ocean, desiring to establish beings equal to space in the state of primordial Buddhahood. And when such a primordial Buddha manifests in oneself, and the lama Buddha who shows it to others, thinking that this lama has shown me that my own mind is the Buddha, is very kind, the devotion that is captivated by the qualities of wisdom, compassion, and power, blazes like the fire at the end of an eon, and through the power of accumulation and purification, one cuts through countless stages of the path in an instant, thereby directly realizing that one's own mind, the Buddha-nature, is free from all obscurations, and ultimately attains perfect Buddhahood. Therefore, this skillful devotion for manifesting the Buddha-nature of one's own mindstream refers to the devotion of knowing that the nature of one's own mind, just mentioned, is the source of all qualities, and the devotion of manifesting it oneself and wishing to establish mother-like beings equal to space in that state, and the devotion of knowing that the effortless accomplishment of the benefit of oneself and others is the kindness of the supreme lama. These three devotions are the ultimate devotion of knowing the Tathagatagarbha as the Three Jewels by the mindstreams of oneself and others.

Therefore, with such devotion arising from refuge and bodhicitta towards these three jewels, and by training in accumulation and purification for this purpose, then the very essence of the Buddha will manifest without relying on any expedient interdependence. For this reason, the accomplished yogi Sangye Nyenpa said, "The king of the Buddha existing in one's own mind is one, the lama Buddha who reveals it is two, the activity Buddha who has become one taste with it is three. In general, although they are separately established by expressions of names and terms, in meaning, the refuge without difference, Gyalwa Karmapa, and also the father, the ocean of Dharma fame, are remembered." It is like this teaching. Moreover, the lineage of the gradualists will not attain the Buddha fruit of fully manifesting and without obscuration realizing the Buddha nature of one's own continuum, however, they only realize a part of the nature of their own continuum, and a small part that is not the ultimate extreme of complete manifestation, and thus become Buddhas. These beings to be tamed are due to the interdependent origination of sharp and dull faculties, the gradualists themselves, due to their nature being dull faculties, are obscured by thick obscurations, making the mind dull, therefore correct wisdom becomes dull, the light of knowledge is not clear, so there is no opportunity to nakedly and completely see the Buddha nature of one's own continuum. The suddenists, due to their nature being sharp faculties, have thin obscurations, therefore the mind becomes sharp, so correct wisdom becomes very bright, becoming the fortunate ones to fully manifest the Buddha nature of their own continuum. Then, in the causal vehicle, does the suddenist not rely on previously taming their own continuum with the gradualist, and is a person of the suddenist lineage? Regarding the doubt that although they rely on previously taming their own continuum, but in the subsequent stage are persons of the suddenist lineage, most of the precious Kagyu lamas who appeared earlier and later consider it to be the latter, however, the all-knowing Jetsun Nyenpa Rinpoche said that the former is in accordance with the actual situation, and that is also

Because the faculties of sentient beings are infinitely diverse, it is certain that there are gradual and sudden types. The gradual path cannot lead the sudden type, and the sudden path cannot lead the gradual type. For example, of the two, Maitripa and Prince Sagar, Maitripa could not see the truth of reality through any of the gradual stages of the sutras and tantras, but after meeting the teacher Shavari the Independent, he understood the meaning of reality in about seven days. Prince Sagar had never tamed his mind through any of the gradual stages of the sutras and tantras, but at the very moment of meeting the teacher Shavaripa, faith arose spontaneously, and having perfected the accumulation of merit, he understood the meaning of reality without the need for other means of expression, and it is said that he fully saw the accumulation of wisdom, the truth of reality. Although both of these individuals were equally sudden individuals with very sharp faculties, it is also certain that the gradual and sudden types are distinct because of the difference between sharp and dull faculties. As the Six Dharmas exemplify: "The great medicine of suddenness becomes poison for the gradual. The great medicine of gradualness becomes poison for the sudden." It is said like this. Therefore, in order to manifest this original ordinary consciousness, one should seek the meaning of reality with great faith in the individual with sudden faculties. 106
