The branch of entering into writing treatises The branch of entering into writing treatises Secondly, the branch of entering into writing treatises, extensively explaining the nature of the treatise to be written, from the three tasks of completing the writing. Firstly, it is appropriate to praise the great compassion, the root of all goodness. From the perspective of the object, expressing its nature and praising it, there are two aspects. Firstly, it shows that all noble beings arise from the three dharmas such as great compassion. Among the three dharmas, great compassion is shown to be the main one, in two aspects. The first is: Hearers and middle Buddhas are born from the Able One, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are born from them, The mind of great compassion and non-dual wisdom, The mind of enlightenment is the cause of the sons of the Victorious Ones. When writing this treatise on the activities of the supreme being, which deeply and extensively enters into the Middle Way, it is appropriate to first accumulate the roots of virtue of offering and praise to a special object and then write. Furthermore, it is appropriate to offer and praise the complete Buddha rather than the Hearers and Solitary Realizers. It is appropriate to do so to the Bodhisattva rather than the complete Buddha. And more than that, it is appropriate to offer and praise the three dharmas such as the great compassion of the Victorious One and the sons of the Victorious Ones. Thus, showing the order is: Hearers and middle Buddhas are born from the Able One, because the liberation of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is produced by the power of the Dharma taught by the Thus-Gone One. The Able One is only in the power of the Blessed One. Only the Able One is the Hearer, Solitary Realizer, and Bodhisattva, because they are tamed by restraining the three doors. It is very appropriate to place the Blessed One as the Lord of the Able Ones, because he is fully endowed with the power of Dharma such as abandonment and realization, and because he rules the Hearers and others by his command. If the Solitary Realizer does not rely on others and manifests his own liberation, how is he born from the Able One? At first, when the Thus-Gone One appeared in the world, the Solitary Realizer lineage heard the profound Dharma of dependent origination, and although he did not pass away from suffering in that life, the ripening of the karma that he will definitely experience in another life, when the opportunity arises when there is no complete Buddha, the Solitary Realizer lineage manifests Nirvana, thereby establishing that he is born from the Able One. The door of the Hearer

So, how to understand it? Because one proclaims to others the attainment of the fruit of the correct path, they are called Śrāvakas. For example, 'I have done this, and I know nothing else besides this,' etc., because they proclaim to others the meaning of their own realization. Or, having heard from someone who shows the path of complete Buddhahood, they proclaim it in order to seek its meaning, (37a) therefore they are called Śrāvakas. In this regard, even Bodhisattvas can be given the name Śrāvaka. As it says in the Lotus Sutra: 'Lord, today we have become Śrāvakas, we will proclaim the supreme Bodhi, and we will also praise the name of Bodhi, therefore we are like inexhaustible Śrāvakas.' Because they hold that hearing is inexhaustible, from the perspective of showing it to others, Bodhisattvas and Śrāvakas have similar qualities. Therefore, if the usage of the name Śrāvaka is like this, then Bodhisattvas can also be called Śrāvakas. Even so, such Bodhisattvas are not the Śrāvakas distinguished by the path of the three vehicles, because having heard the path of complete Buddhahood, they themselves will practice it. And the Śrāvakas who abide in the Śrāvaka vehicle, even if they proclaim the path of complete Buddhahood to others, they themselves will not seek that path. Therefore, just because of the usage of the name Śrāvaka, to suspect that they are Śrāvakas distinguished by the three vehicles, how could that arise for those with intelligent minds? Here it is necessary to know that the venerable Rangjung Dorje said in 'Profound Inner Meaning': 'Inner and outer Śrāvakas are not the realm of practice.' The Śrāvakas that appear here are not the Śrāvakas in the way of establishing names that appear here, because the two ways of establishing the name Śrāvaka that are not mentioned here are not found in the outer paths. In order, the outer paths do not have the correct method of practicing liberation from samsara themselves, and then proclaim 'liberate in this way,' nor do the outer paths hear the path of complete Buddhahood from the complete Buddha, (37b) and then proclaim it for the sake of others' liberation. The latter is not established, because the outer paths do not consider that path to be the path of liberation. Even so, there is no contradiction in applying the name Śrāvaka to the outer paths, considering that they listen to the words of Īśvara etc. and proclaim them to others, there is no obstacle to applying it there.
