Observing the appearances of beings is to behold the state of not entering Nirvana, which is the service of being free from destruction, and the reverence becomes slack. Showing Nirvana, rejoicing in the peaceful realm of Dharma, this is called abiding in the Dharmakaya. Root verse: After the accomplishment of meditation, bearing the burden of dwelling in a kalpa. Seeing death as futile and meaningless. Brahma, Indra, the Well-Born, the Wheel-Turning Kings, etc. Do not contemplate the means of escaping the Lord of Death's demon. This means that after the accomplishment of meditation, the great divine sages who bear the burden of living for eighty thousand great kalpas, eventually their longevity becomes futile and meaningless. After seeing such a form of death, Brahma, Indra, Maheshvara, Vishnu, the Wheel-Turning Kings, etc., no matter how great the power of anyone in the world, they will not think of a way to escape the clutches of the Lord of Death, and even if they think about it, they cannot achieve it. Root verse: The heavenly realm is lush with delightful medicinal herbs. For the lives of beings, again and again in the heart. A hunter with a club in his hand. Only seeks benefit, considers nothing else. This means that the abode of gods and non-humans in the heavenly realm, where various medicinal herbs such as flowers and plants grow, is like a delightful place lush with medicinal herbs. Gathering many friends, they sever the lives of these beings. It is not another hunter, but Yama's messenger holding a club. What they seek is only torment, and they consider nothing else. Root verse: Beings tormented by the summer heat. Delight in the clear light of the autumn moon. A hundred days and nights pass, and their lives slip away, yet they do not feel fear in their hearts. This means that foolish beings tormented by the summer heat think, 'How wonderful it would be to rest under this cool autumn moon.' Day after day passes, and their lives slip away, yet they do not feel fear in their hearts. This is truly foolish. Root verse: An arrow shot by a person's effort is swift. Even faster than that is a hungry ghost crawling on the ground. Faster than that is flying in the air, faster than that is the horses of the sun and moon. The fastest of all is the passing of human life. Like this, an arrow shot by a person of great strength is faster than a hungry ghost crawling on the ground.

Even faster than that are those who inflict harm on other sky-goers; faster than that are the chariots of the sun and moon's winds; faster than that are the extremely swift gods. Among all of these, the life of a human being passes the swiftest. Root text: One who has reached maturity is afflicted by the punishment of old age. One who dwells in a state of harmony is disturbed by illness. Perfect interdependent arising is destroyed by decline. Death attacks life and comes swiftly. This means that these four things that make the world unpleasant cause all beings to suffer harm, as it is also said in the Sutra of Advice to the King: "Great King, old age destroys and comes upon those who have reached maturity; illness destroys and comes upon those who are without illness; decline destroys and comes upon all that is perfect; death destroys and comes upon life." Thus, it should be applied to the commentary. Root text: When one is defeated on the battlefield of Yama, the Lord of Death, one runs to a precipice, devoid of protectors and allies. One completely abandons the vitality of life and the senses. Medicines and doctors also flee from him. Limbs become weary from moving, and breath is involuntarily swayed and propelled by force. Even though surrounded by relatives and lamented, one becomes devoid of the stability of a hook that grants reprieve. The change in his breath is like the tongue of a horse's tail, severed by the sharp sword of the Lord of Death. Abandoning beauty, displaying teeth, one enters the thick darkness of karmic existence. This means that when one is defeated on the battlefield of Yama, the Lord of Death, that is, when body and mind separate, there are no protectors or allies, and like a boulder rolling down a terrifying cliff, it is impossible to stop. The beauty of youth fades, and the functions of the five senses also cease. Even with nourishing food, one cannot prolong life for even a moment. The movement of the limbs loses its autonomy, involuntarily shaking, and eventually becoming weary, unable to move. The breath also becomes weak and rough, with short inhalations and long, violent exhalations, producing a wheezing sound. Parents, relatives, friends, and even those who would give their lives surround him, uttering cries of sorrow, but they cannot be liberated from death, just as one cannot escape being caught by an iron hook. The change in the breath of one who is certain to die
