In the realm of desire, from the east of the four directions, respectively: the grove of various chariots, the grove of coarse transformation, the mixed grove, and the grove of joy, these four. In that grove, there is a bedchamber of a thousand guides, endowed with glory. Outside of it, there are four good lands, named Various, Mixed, Coarse Transformation, and Joy. In the northeast of that supreme city, there is a tree called "All Gathering Place," and beneath it, on a white stone slab like ammonia, fifty yojanas in length and width, the thirty-three gods gather in the first month of summer to enjoy the five desires. In the southwest of that beautiful city, there is the Good Dharma Hall, the assembly place of the gods. Thus, these two abodes of the desire gods are dependent on the earth. From the cause of shared merit, the four kinds of desire gods dwelling in the sky are: the No-Strife, the Joyful, the Delightful Transformation, and the Others' Emanation Controlling, arranged in descending order. The Asuras also belong to the desire realm, having practiced mixed good and evil in their previous lives, and especially being propelled by the karma of pretas, but due to the merit of the perfecting gods, they possess wealth equal to that of the gods. At the water's edge of the hollow where Mount Meru is submerged in the ocean is Rahu. From below that, in descending order: the Neck Garland, the Star Garland, and those dwelling on the golden earth, possess wealth equal to that of the desire gods. Palaces, cities, assembly places, lands, trees, stone slabs, elephants, and supreme horses are like rivals to the gods. Other Asuras dwell in uncertain places such as Jambudvipa, subcontinents, mountain ranges, and Mount Meru, and they are non-humans of the demon race. The arrangement of the abodes of desire has been shown. From the desire realm, in the sky elevated by forty thousand yojanas, in descending order: the Brahma Assembly, the Brahma Before, and the Great Brahma, these three arise from attaining the small, medium, and large states of the first dhyana. The Small Light, the Immeasurable Light, and the Clear Light, these three are like the above, from the small, medium, and large states of the second dhyana. The Small Virtue, the Immeasurable Virtue, and the Extensive Virtue, these three are inferred from the third dhyana. The Cloudless, the Merit-Born, and the Great Fruit, these three are like the above, from the fourth dhyana. Above that

There are five Pure Abodes, namely: Aviha, Atapa, Sudrisha, Sudarshana, and Akanishtha. These are attained through alternating meditation on the fourth dhyana. The lower four are the other four abodes of ordinary beings, and the five above them are the abodes of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, which are the five Pure Abodes. That is to say, from Mahabrahma downwards to the world of the four continents upwards, a thousand such worlds are horizontally surrounded, and the periphery is surrounded by a single iron mountain, on top of which, like the lid of a vessel, is covered by a place of great light, which is called the world of the small chiliocosm. Again, a thousand such worlds are arranged vertically, surrounded by an iron mountain like a circular edge, and below it is covered by a single vast place, which is called the world of the intermediate chiliocosm. Again, a thousand such worlds are arranged horizontally, the periphery being as above, and in general, the initial foundation of each world is golden, and below it there are individual mandalas of water, and the foundation below all of these is supported upwards by a great mandala of wind. Akanishtha supports downwards, which is called the great trichiliocosm. It is said that the formless realm must also be included there. Moreover, outside the four directions and eight intermediate directions of the great trichiliocosm, all that is pervaded by measurable space is pervaded without interruption by the dependent and the depended, just as before. All the ground, voids, and surfaces of these are filled with humans, gods, asuras, etc., and below are filled with the three lower realms, which must be known. Regarding the basis for counting the trichiliocosm, it is said in the Abhidharmakosha: The four continents, the sun and moon, Mount Meru, and the desire gods, a thousand Brahma worlds are considered to be a small chiliocosm. A thousand of these is the intermediate chiliocosm. A thousand of these is the trichiliocosm, which is destroyed and arises together. Therefore, the lower mandala of wind supports upwards, the great fruit supports downwards, formation, abiding, destruction, emptiness, are roughly the same. If distinguished specifically, when the three disasters of fire, water, and wind occur, one should also understand the causes and conditions for the non-destruction of each of the fourth dhyanas. Such a trichiliocosm is called the Saha world. And also, the gods
