Beh. Because it becomes the cause of obscurations for the first sentient beings. Both Shamatha (calm abiding) and Vipassana (insight) have the same essence, but there are two different ways of guiding them. From the perspective of the initial Shamatha, the meditation of abiding and the wisdom of clarity are combined inseparably, and it must be established on the meaning of being free from the extremes of non-duality. From the perspective of Vipassana, there are also two divisions: arising from wisdom and arising from pith instructions. The meaning of "arising from wisdom" is that, like following sound, one focuses single-pointedly on the meaning of what is heard and becomes still, that is, not being moved by conceptual thoughts. Furthermore, by realizing the meaning of being free from dualistic grasping, such as the object of observation and the observer, one achieves the perfectly pure characteristic of Vipassana. The meaning of "arising from pith instructions" is that because it follows the meaning, the mind, while being free from thoughts, is unwavering, which is Shamatha. Knowing its nature as inexpressible, inconceivable, and unutterable is Vipassana. In short, if the superior one manifests negative thoughts as Dharmakaya (the body of truth) and realizes the equality of good and bad, then there is no need to rely on antidotes. The intermediate one, while abiding in the natural state, clarifies whatever thoughts arise, and by becoming accustomed to the path of the union of Shamatha and Vipassana, all thoughts of good and bad dissolve into the Dharmadhatu (the realm of truth), thereby being free from dualistic grasping. For the inferior one, it is very important to initially seek only Shamatha and strive to make the mind unwavering. After gaining stability in the object of focus, if one becomes accustomed to the wisdom of individually realizing the wisdom of Vipassana, and realizes the meaning of the natural state as it is, then, like finally reaching the golden land where one cannot find mud or stones even if one searches, no matter what thoughts of mind and mental factors arise, one realizes the meaning of the inseparability of appearance and mind, thereby giving rise to the realization of the absence of an observer and an observed in the great primordial liberation. As the supreme method, no matter what good or bad thoughts arise, do not suppress them, nor create them, do not follow them, and do not waver or change from their natural state. Then, one will obtain all the qualities of purified senses, such as the divine eye, the eye, and the six types of clairvoyance. If the thoughts that arise follow the five objects and are associated with attachment and aversion, then that is ordinary. Like a mirror, in the clear, unclouded awareness, appearances

Without interruption of forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile objects, etc., appearing like stars in the ocean, yet not being stained by the mind of differentiation, the connection between the object of grasping and the grasping mind is severed. The pinnacle of the sixteen aspects of the view of self-cognizant non-conceptualization has now, from this moment, reached the ground of the wisdom of the Lama. In short, the five paths of Dzogchen are: The path of the Dharmadhatu is the unchanging nature of all dharmas, the only one; the path of Rigpa is the extraordinary wisdom that thoroughly distinguishes all dharmas; the path of luminosity is Tögal, which is the lamp of the pure Dharmadhatu, the lamp of the Vajra chain of Rigpa, these two; the path of Trekchö is the simultaneous arising and liberation of any thought, like water and waves; the path of Tögal is the outer Dharmadhatu, the empty sky, and the inner Dharmadhatu, the sky of mind, free from permanence and annihilation. Rigpa is the manifestation of the Vajra chain from the power of self-arising wisdom. These are the uncommon five paths of the Great Perfection of Self-Nature, know them well. Ignorance is a friend, foolishness and delusion are faults, being disturbed by the deception of various illusions, the wilderness of endless samsara is terrifying. With the iron chain of grasping and being grasped, which accumulates many great faults such as the ten non-virtuous actions and the five poisons and three poisons, from today onwards, having been bound since beginningless time, generate a mind of renunciation, generate the supreme intention to benefit others, and approach the sacred city of peace, that is, approach the supreme Great Perfection as the path to Nirvana. The concise commentary on the twelfth chapter of the Treasury of Precious Qualities is completed.
