The suffering arising from transformation is immeasurable. Because one must go through the time of childbirth, that tiny body endures the unbearable suffering of compression, like a burden being transferred. Mother and child both lose their lives in that instant, or one of them, the child, is sought in a manner laden with the burden of harm. In that moist environment, lingering for a long time and being extremely filthy, wrapped up and emitting an unbearable stench, like when a flesh tumor ruptures, the powers of previous memories are completely lost, and tormented by the sensation of touch, one experiences suffering. Youth is oppressed by the punishment of aging, with exhaustion and unease weighing down, the power to move the body diminishes, like a dilapidated castle, subject to others. The movements of going and returning make it difficult for the body to move, joints become deformed, and the enjoyment of the five desirable qualities and the perfect pleasures of the world disappear like sunlight obscured by clouds, becoming ignorant of knowledge. The power of wisdom declines, and one wanders greatly in a bed of confused consciousness. Furthermore, the four elements—wind, bile, phlegm, and their combination—when their nature is in a balanced state, do not change. When they are imbalanced, the pool of mixture becomes turbid, and the appropriation of the five aggregates is wearied by the sensation of illness, becoming fearful of losing the stability of sustaining life. Moreover, in this world, even piling up wealth like mountains cannot prevent the suffering of death from descending. Facing the transition to the next life, whoever that person may be, they will be separated from relatives and enjoyments, transcending the appearances of this life, and must depart without any support. The unpleasant realm refers to the fears of the bardo and being bound by the noose of the Lord of Death. The messengers of suffering who encounter these things torment and degrade them. The appearances of this life vanish due to decay, like the collapse of a resting place of comfort, unable to breathe comfortably, it is especially dangerous. Suddenly separating from loved ones such as close relatives and friends.

The way of stating it is also: When the ascetic who is weakened by suffering appears, Prince Norbu Sangpo is controlled by the suffering of being separated from the celestial woman, and follows her. The path is covered with various harms, and he laments that the karmic consequences of the next life are long. In general, those who are impoverished by desire and weakened by the power of past merit, and upon whom the suffering of poverty falls, are those who, when hungry, seek food and when thirsty, seek drink, but cannot obtain it, and can only be controlled by hope and disappointment. The suffering of people who barely survive is like that of a hungry ghost wandering on the ground. Moreover, relying on one's own body, knowing the nature of pleasure and pain etc. with feeling, constantly distinguishing good and bad with consciousness, creating future seeds of good and bad karma with actions, and experiencing the karma of pleasure and pain with consciousness. Therefore, know that these five aggregates are the source of all kinds of suffering, the support, container, cause and effect, and master of all beings. Therefore, one must abandon the root of all causes, that is, the collection of karma and afflictions. After abandoning in this way, a person of medium capacity, the path of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, suffering should be known, accumulation should be abandoned, the path should be cultivated, cessation should be realized, those who ride the chariot of the Four Noble Truths, attain the state of cessation of Nirvana, that is, reach the Buddha land of the supreme state of liberation. The root of all high and low supports and dualistic dharmas is co-emergent and imputed ignorance, from which arise action, consciousness, name and form, from which arise the six places, from which arise contact, contact arises feeling, feeling arises craving, craving arises grasping, grasping arises existence, existence arises birth. As long as there is birth, there will be poverty of desire, sorrow, sickness, old age and death, etc., the great heap of suffering. Therefore, if birth ceases, all other dependent origination of samsara will cease. This profound cause and effect of dependent origination is what the Buddhas, the speakers of truth, have said.

It is undoubtedly the treasury of merit. Although it is so, from the high and low of the actions of existence, there are the ten virtues of the karmic results of merit, the ten non-virtues of non-meritorious actions, the four meditations of unwavering actions, and the four formless realms, etc. That which transcends all white and black cause-and-effect phenomena is said to be the reality of supreme peace. This arises from the realization of the unborn nature of phenomena. This concludes the concise commentary on the fourth chapter of the Treasury of Precious Qualities. Chapter Four.
