Although relying on it, one may temporarily avoid the licking of the tongues of the fierce crocodile-like three lower realms, one has still not crossed the ocean of suffering of samsara, nor reached the shore of liberation. Therefore, in order to avoid obstacles and accomplish favorable conditions, one must rely on the guide of the Four Noble Truths as protector and refuge. To understand the truth of suffering, one must know that among the six realms of samsara, whether the lower three realms or the higher realms of gods, humans, or asuras, the suffering of suffering is like suffering upon suffering, stacked upon each other. And whatever experience of sublime and perfect happiness there is, it changes like awakening from a dream. Pervasive conditioning is such that most of the perfections of happiness in this world are accomplished only through sin, so although it does not appear as suffering now, it will manifest and be experienced later. Thus, there is no samsaric existence that is not bound by the three sufferings. Both temporarily and ultimately, what generates destruction is the arrogance of the evil demons of desire and the poisons of objects, which clash and collide with each other, which is attachment to desire. Falling into attachment and aversion to the appearance of the five objects, one is like being in a prison without freedom, with no chance of escape, and only increasing distress and sorrow. Aspiring to happiness and exerting great effort is wrong. Overwhelmed by the power of ignorance, one regards the nature of the cause and effect of suffering, the inevitable prison, the place of harm relying on the sharp edge of weapons, as a place of true happiness, just as moths fly into a flame. Being deceived by sound, smell, taste, and touch is like animals being killed because they are attached to sound, bees dying because they are attached to smell, fish being caught because they crave the flesh on the hook, and elephants falling into the water and dying because they are attached to the touch of a female elephant. These arise in dependence on the five objects of desire. Why is this so? Merely encountering the objects of existence is like encountering a fierce fire, instantly destroying."

The manifestation of evil is that cruelty shows rough actions, like the punishment of beasts and savage kings, so swift that the previous suffering has not yet dissipated before the next arrives, and generations torment these beings. I cannot conceive of those who are friendly or unfriendly to me, relatives and enemies, etc. All sentient beings sometimes act as enemies, sometimes as friends, and sometimes take a neutral stance, giving help and harm, etc., which are beyond comprehension. Sentient beings as tiny as dust particles maintain life with only one body, and for the sake of craving the flesh and skin of other beings who have taken form, heads and limbs are cut off and dismembered. If all these were piled together, even Mount Meru would be eclipsed, and it would be even higher than that. When born in hell, one involuntarily drinks boiling molten copper, and when transformed into the body of a hungry ghost, one eats pus, blood, and impure things. At all these times, if the tears shed from suffering were gathered together, they would be more than the rivers that reach the edges of the four directions and eight points. Different from other beings, the suffering of hell is immeasurable. They kill each other with various weapons, dying and reviving. Similarly, many definite or indefinite black lines are drawn on the body, and then they are sawn, healing immediately after being cut, never ceasing. The gathering and destroying is when mountains transform into the image of terrifying animal heads, and then the mountains approach each other and are struck with hammers. Small cries are when iron juice is boiled in an iron pot inside a single layer of an iron house, and they are struck from the outside with weapons. Loud cries or great wails are when they are burned in a two-layered burning iron house. Burning is when the body is pierced by burning bright fire. Extreme burning is when the center of the body is pierced by a three-pointed short spear, and then it is wrapped from the outside with red-hot iron cloth. Cooking in boiling bile, and so on, are all sufferings. The uninterrupted hell is when, in a burning iron house, the fire and the bodies of the beings born there are burned as one, and at that moment, gasping from that suffering, the thought of seeking a moment of comfort arises, thinking that the nearby door is now opening.
