Commentary on the Treasury of Precious Qualities, A Garland of Jewels, Drops of the Ocean. Commentary on the Treasury of Precious Qualities, A Garland of Jewels, Drops of the Ocean. Chapter One. The first volume of the collected works of Dodrupchen Kunzang Shenpen is present. गुणाकोशररत्नसुप्रतिस्तारियोबा अपरतमणियोमात्येबिहरतिस्म (guṇakośararatnasupratisrāriyobā aparatamaṇiyomālyebiharatisma). Commentary on the Treasury of Precious Qualities, A Garland of Jewels, Drops of the Ocean. Homage! Following the sharp wisdom of Manjushri, Avalokiteshvara with rays of loving white light, Vajradhara, the powerful, self-arisen secret lord, I bow to Jigme Lingpa, the embodiment of the three families. His doctrine, the Dharma that unites Sutra and Tantra, Fulfills the hopes of fortunate beings like a wish-fulfilling gem. This is the unsurpassed treasury of the nine vehicles' intentions. Therefore, I will clarify its word-by-word commentary. Furthermore, this treatise by Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa, which definitively establishes the complete meaning of Sutra and Tantra, I will write down a concise commentary or word commentary, measuring it with my own intellect. First, in the Indian language: There are two, Indian and Chinese. First, because it is the place where a thousand Buddhas appear and reside, and the source of the sacred Dharma, and because they like white for auspiciousness and clothing, etc., that is why it is called that. Furthermore, the reason why white is translated as "gar" is because the translators made it easy to apply in accordance with Tibetan grammar. This is what is said in authoritative texts. China, in general, values the laws and customs of the world, and considers black clothing and auspicious objects to be good, so it is called that. In India, that is, the sacred land, although there are many different languages, according to Sanskrit (sāṃskṛta), like the language of the gods: गुणा (guṇa, qualities), कोश (kośa, treasury), रत्न (ratna, jewel). Just these can identify the title, and it is fine to fully express the meaning of the beginning, middle, and end. However, below that, adding प्रमोद्रपृष्टि (pramodrapṛṣṭi), meaning to insert it with childish wisdom, and finally adding नमः (namaḥ, homage), that is, adding it all up, translated into Tibetan it is: Treasury of Precious Qualities, Rain of Joy. This is the glory of the three secrets of the Buddhas.

Gathering all the essence into one, a treatise like a treasure trove of jewels, named "The Supreme Path to Enlightenment: The Nine Successive Vehicles," which completely contains the meaning of all vehicles, and makes fortunate followers rejoice, like rain falling on the crops of farmers, causing them to obtain joy, this is the name of this treatise. Homage to the Three Jewels! The meaning of this is: What is rare in this world? The Udumbara flower is rare. Even rarer than that is the appearance of a Buddha in the world. Even rarer than that is the teaching of the sacred Dharma, such as the Secret Mantra Vajrayana. And the Sangha of noble beings who uphold this Dharma, possessing both wisdom and liberation, is also rare. For example, all kinds of jewels, especially the wish-fulfilling jewel king, are rare, but compared to that, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, must accumulate merit and purify obscurations for countless three immeasurable kalpas in order to attain the state of Buddhahood by their power, therefore, there is nothing rarer than that in this world. Paying homage to these three is also for the purpose of ensuring that the Lord of Dharma has no obstacles in composing the treatise and that it is ultimately completed. The explanation of homage is: With the manifestation of faith and reverence, the hands form the mudra of a lotus blooming, placed in three places, intending to purify the obscurations of the three doors of body, speech, and mind, hence the saying "homage." The Three Jewels are: Teacher, supreme Buddha Jewel, Protector, supreme... Guide... This well-known letter, except for the eight unfavorable conditions, can be spread to all places by those who possess the karma and fortune. For example, a great king seals a letter with the royal seal, and no matter to which subject it is delivered, it cannot be disobeyed. The story of this is: In the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a merchant named Norchen, and his wife was named Sonamchen Rinchen Den. When the five masters passed away, this woman decorated the top of a huge stupa with her necklace, and through this merit and ripening karma, she was born as the daughter of the King of Samgala. However, she became fat and ignorant due to her previous life's stinginess, slandered offerings, and ultimately became a servant for a long time due to the karmic result of extreme miserliness.
