Although it exists, it is extremely difficult to understand because it abides in a state of quiescence that transcends the conceptual elaborations of the four extremes. As stated in the sutras, this state of the Tathagatagarbha (bde gshegs snying po, essence of the Thus-Gone One) is known by even the great Bodhisattvas of the ten bhumis (sa bcu'i sems dpa' chen po, ten grounds of Bodhisattva) only vaguely, like seeing an object in the dark, and cannot be fully comprehended. However, if the guru's (bla ma, teacher) instructions are taken as the core, even ordinary beings can generate faith and practice it. This is the special characteristic of mantra (sngags, mantra), and through this method, the path of mantra can be accomplished quickly and profoundly. Although it naturally resides within the minds of sentient beings, it has not yet manifested, which can be demonstrated through the three examples of treasure (gter, treasure), etc. It is described in all the sutras and tantras (mdo rgyud, sutra and tantra) with various names. Because this essence of all Dharmas (chos, Dharma) is extremely profound, few can truly understand it. Therefore, if misunderstandings are eliminated and correct understanding is gained, one can gain faith in the profound sutras and tantras, thereby perfecting the entire path of practice. Therefore, this chapter elaborates on this method in detail. Thus, the second excellent teaching of Garab Dorje (dga' rab rdo rje), which has become the essence of the Jewel Treasury. By combining these profound key points with emptiness, may the position of Dharma King be attained in this life! This is the observation of the reality of the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury. Because these words are very profound and difficult to understand, Mipham Namgyal (mi pham rnam par rgyal ba) wrote these for the sake of many truth-seekers. May it be auspicious! Praise to the teaching that possesses the four reliances: Your wisdom is like the pure expanse of space, The moon-like mandala of Manjushri (jam mgon, gentle protector) shines brightly. Your throat is like the vast ocean of milk, Saraswati (dbyangs can ngang pa'i bu mo, melodious swan maiden) freely frolics. (1) You are the great cloud of Dharma on the tenth bhumi, Joyfully playing, emitting a thousand rays of immaculate light. Your treasure of speech, like a wish-fulfilling jewel, Is praised by countless wise and accomplished ones (klu dbang, naga lord). (2) We, humble beings, Have long been attached to this, yet lack certainty. May the guru bestow upon us unwavering faith, To believe in the vajra (rdo rje, diamond/thunderbolt) four meanings of what you say. (3) The many treatises we compose with hope, Though the words are ornate and the structure refined, When analyzed with reason, Often contain many contradictions in meaning. (4) Having abandoned the pursuit of fame and gain, Speaking the vajra words in a natural manner. Because we do not focus on ornate language, It is comparable to the excellent tantras composed by Glorious Name (dpal ldan grags pa). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Through the meaning elucidated by this treatise, even if one strives to investigate, it is difficult to find even the slightest fault. Because there is no opportunity to refute it like the Dharma, it possesses the symbolism of necessarily relying on the meaning. 6. Praising those who praise and following them, and refuting criticisms with words. Following those who are merely famous, most treatises are written in the same way. 7. This treatise, not relying on others, with its own wisdom, accurately explains the true intentions of the Supreme Conqueror (Jina) and the great Bodhisattvas. Like the treatises of the two chariots (Nagarjuna and Asanga) of the sacred land of India. 8. The dust of words driven by the wind of attachment, disturbs the originally peaceful state of others' minds. Completely abandoning bad environments, with a peaceful demeanor, it appropriately demonstrates reliance on the Dharma. 9. At the top of the tree of Dharma principles with shallow meanings, swaying with hundreds of thousands of speculative branches, the groups of speculative monkeys revel in playful gestures. Fully displaying various speculative games. 10. With the wings of the wisdom Garuda, cutting off the path to the view of the Supreme Vehicle (Mahayana). All his words are like the vast expanse of the sky, like the Vajra Dohas of the accomplished ones (Siddhas). 11. Always consistently taking the profound meaning of Sutra and Tantra as the ultimate core to be expressed. Because he is good at teaching, those fortunate beings to be tamed will rely on the definitive meaning. 12. Minds and mental events, thoughts arising, in the dense forest of arguing right and wrong, with habits of hope and despair, taking and abandoning, wandering through generations, exhausted beings! 13. Pervading everything with a single loving gaze, for those bonds of doubt that constantly arise, with the inner eye of wisdom, cutting them off all at once. Like the Dharma Sun, the Victorious One (Jina), who opens the eye of wisdom. 14. Because elaborate words increase and obscure the meaning, the most secret key point is to establish the non-elaborate Samahita. Because he always clearly reveals this, it clearly demonstrates reliance on Jnana. 15. Therefore, in the supreme teachings of the Omniscient One (Sarvajna), compared to the treatises written by ordinary people, the four excellent symbolic methods. If one observes carefully, one will surely find them. 16. Therefore, like swans in a lotus lake, for those who possess the four reliances, for this excellent explanation of this treatise. Naturally, the supreme mind of admiration will increase. 17. Without the motivation of craving for one's own benefit, and without separating from the compassion for others, the four symbols… --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
