The Songs, Dances, Musical Instruments First Chapter All kinds of songs, dances, and musical instruments are present. Skillful means manifest various forms, moved by love, dancing by love, In all realms, bestowing the taste of universal joy, may the lord of dance, youthful Manjushri, protect. On a meticulously adorned body, adorned with many ornaments, swaying gracefully, Various postures intertwine and transform, songs like the sound of golden bells. The slender and supple waist sways like a vine, from the tip of the hanging jewel net, A sound like a swan's cry, golden bells tinkling, captivating the heart. Like a dream, increasing desire, in the midst of a break, like a beautiful moon, A face with a complexion of white and red, extremely beautiful, braids of hair swaying lightly, Fragrance of sandalwood, camphor, and lychee emanates. In a manner unseen before, sixteen-year-old boys and girls, Holding hands, dancing gracefully, with gorgeous costumes and varied postures. There, one with keen insight and clear wisdom, Eyes as wide as lotus petals, observing their every move, And in a question-and-answer manner, telling their stories. First, the young dancers, with voices like heavenly music, express the joy of watching: 'The most delightful entertainment in the world is the ultimate enjoyment that brings happiness, It is as sweet as honey, soothing the sorrowful heart, Once tasted, it penetrates the heart, no matter how long enjoyed, there is no weariness. Especially the graceful figures of youthful beauty, Each showing the best of themselves, accompanied by subtle smiles and elegant dances, The invisible heart seems to melt away. Like a lotus without sunlight, those with evil intentions always frown, Like a water lily bathed in moonlight, the blessed always smile with joy. Like a blue lotus in a sea of milk, on a beautiful face, there is a pair of charming eyes, That slightly shy gaze, like a flash of lightning, Between each other, as if tightly connected by ropes. Moist and bright eyes, like lotus petals, Full of loving red light, like red pollen of honey, Young bees eager to suck, looking ahead, Here, they compete with each other in beauty.' Having said that, the wise one smiled slightly, using a cheerful tone like a bee, Starting from his own experience, he spoke of the truth of impermanence: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alas, how busy we are looking at each other! Like a peacock seeing a cloud, we rejoice here. Clearly dwelling in the face of the fear of death, Yet, without worry, we perform playful songs and dances. The momentary, unceasing dance postures, Clearly show an example to the hearts of people, Yet, without understanding, we still watch the dance. Do we not think that life is like a dance? Limbs that shake and move again and again, Eventually lie motionless on the ground like stones, Fragments of bones separated from flesh, Scatter like being strewn in all directions. Here, loving each other mutually, These people connected like a string of beads, Also, due to the power of karma, in the next world, Go separately to different realms. When will it be like white teeth falling out, When smiling, like wind stirring a muddy pond, When walking slowly with the support of a cane, Also tremble like remembering the fear of death. Like a young lotus blooming in the sunlight, If you want to always smile happily, Also understand that like an old lotus in a storm, Time involuntarily leads to aging. Having said this, the young women together sang this song with voices like the instruments of the gods to express their joyful feelings: When seeing the beautiful moon-like face, Like the stamen of a moon-joy flower blooming in the moonlight, The pure white teeth beautifully display, In the center of the red lotus-like lips. The waves of the ocean of joy surging in the heart, Perfectly swirl in the beautiful neck vase, This play of song and dance illusion, Is called a pleasant sound, laughter, in the world. Wherever, like hearing the instruments of the gods, Hearing it brings joy, called the sound of laughter, Where it exists, there is no great fear, Nor the pain of being tormented by sorrow. The person who has not experienced the joy of this group of young people, Even if they have experienced the joy of other heavens, Cannot understand happiness from something without taste. Having said this, the intelligent one, hearing the true and pleasant words of the young women, looked at them with wide eyes, imitating a cuckoo playing in the treetops, half-hearing and half-not-hearing, sang this song expressing their sorrowful feelings: In the center of the lips moistened with blood, The true color of the white bones without flesh, Compared to the very pure flowers, Alas, look at the appearance of those full of desire! Drawn by desire, the mind wanders. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
