Collection of Instructions by Ju Mipham Rinpoche MP184: The Essence of Dependent Arising The Essence of Dependent Arising In Sanskrit: Pratītyasamutpāda Hṛdaya Kārikā. In Tibetan: རྟེན་ཅིང་འབྲེལ་བར་འབྱུང་བའི་སྙིང་པོའི་ཚིག་ལེའུར་བྱས་པ། (tendzhing drelwar jungwai nyingpoi tsikliur jepa) Homage to youthful Mañjuśrī! The twelve branches, in particular, which the Thubpa (Buddha) spoke of as dependent arising, are completely included in the three: afflictions, karma, and suffering. The first eight and the ninth are afflictions; the second and tenth are karma; the remaining seven are also suffering. The twelve dharmas are included in the three. From the three, two arise; from the two, seven arise; and from the seven, three arise; that wheel of existence revolves again and again. All beings are cause and effect; in this, there is no sentient being whatsoever. Merely from empty dharmas, empty dharmas arise. The dharmas that are without self and what belongs to self, like spittle, a lamp, a mirror, a mirage, a burning glass, a seed, transformation, and sound. Also, the joining of aggregates should be understood by the wise as not transferring. Even for an extremely subtle thing, whoever conceptually analyzes it as ceasing is not wise; that one does not see the meaning of what arises from conditions. In this, there is nothing to be eliminated, and there is nothing to be established. Look correctly at what is correct; seeing correctly is complete liberation. The Essence of Dependent Arising Verses, composed by the teacher, the noble Nāgārjuna, is complete. May there be auspiciousness! Commentary on the Essence of Dependent Arising Verses, Called 'Profound Vision' Namo Guru Padma Mañjuśrī Vajra Tīkṣaṇa ya! In all realms of existence, visible and invisible, beings are closely bound by the net of dependently arising. The path to liberation from this is possessed by the great ascetic (Buddha); it is not found in other worlds, even those with Brahmā. Therefore, from the depths of my heart, I respectfully bow to the incomparable teacher and his spiritual sons who follow him. I will clearly illuminate this supreme path of his teachings. Here, dependent arising is the essence of all the teachings of the Victorious Śākyasiṃha (Buddha). As the teacher Nāgārjuna said: 'This dependent arising is the precious, profound treasure of the Victorious One's (Buddha's) treasury of speech; whoever sees this completely sees the supreme mode of knowledge of that Buddha himself.' This is in accordance with the meaning of the sūtras spoken by the Buddha himself. Such a teaching on dependent arising... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

将两者结合:Pratītyasamutpāda(རྟེན་ཅིང་འབྲེལ་བར་འབྱུང་བའི་,Tendzhing Drelwar Jungwai,缘起); Hrdaya(སྙིང་པོ།,Nyingpo,心要); Kārikā(ཚིགས་ལེའུར་བྱས་པ།,Tsig Leur Jepa,偈颂)。

In the commentary on the Prajñāpāramitā, the Buddha himself prophesied that he would be a revealer of the unsurpassed vehicle. Now, I will clearly explain this immaculate work by the venerable Nāgārjuna, the 'Essence of Dependent Origination in Verse'. The explanation is in three parts: the introduction, the main body, and the conclusion. The first part consists of the title and the translator's homage. First, the title: In Sanskrit: Pratītyasamutpāda-hrdaya-kārikā. (Tendzhing Drelwar Jungwai Nyingpoi Tsig Leur Jepa). Combining the two: Pratītyasamutpāda (རྟེན་ཅིང་འབྲེལ་བར་འབྱུང་བའི་, Tendzhing Drelwar Jungwai, Dependent Origination); Hrdaya (སྙིང་པོ།, Nyingpo, Essence); Kārikā (ཚིགས་ལེའུར་བྱས་པ།, Tsig Leur Jepa, Verse). Its meaning is: Just as butter is extracted from milk, the essence of the many sutras on dependent origination spoken by the Buddha are gathered here, and because the profound meaning of these sutras is fully understood, it is called 'Essence'. This is because it gathers the vast and understands the profound. Therefore, such meaning is expressed in verse, hence it is called 'Essence of Dependent Origination in Verse'. The second part is the translator's homage: 'Homage to the youthful prince who is free from the coarse touch of afflictions, whose obscurations of knowledge are exhausted, and who is endowed with the glorious abundance of the two wisdoms.' This is the homage made by the translator. Next is the main body: In general, dependent origination is extensively explained in all the Buddha's teachings, especially in sutras such as the Rice Seedling Sutra. In general, all the Buddha's teachings, whether Mahayana or Hinayana, must be bound by the principles of the Four Noble Truths. Because all the teachings spoken by the Buddha aim to cut off the root of samsara and lead beings to nirvana. Moreover, each teaching can be clearly divided into two parts: cause and effect. Therefore, in the Buddha's teachings, the Four Noble Truths are first explained as the foundation of all sacred Dharma. This is the unsurpassed method for understanding how to liberate oneself from samsara. For example, when we contemplate the nature of this samsara, which is full of suffering, we think: 'Where does it come from? How can we be liberated from it?' The non-Buddhists believe that samsara arises from Brahma, Ishvara, or 'self', and that liberation can be attained by meditating on 'self', etc. They distort the truth with false notions and fall into darkness. However, the fully enlightened Buddha pointed out that all internal and external phenomena arise due to the power of dependent origination. Therefore, the root cause of the impure vessel-world and sentient-world is karma and afflictions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
