Collection of Instructions by Ju Mipham Rinpoche MP132, Consecration Ritual for Buddha Images: Auspicious Excellence 7-30-1a Consecration Ritual for Buddha Images: Auspicious Excellence Preliminary Practices Here, the ritual for integrating the samaya-being (dam tshig pa) of the support (rten, object of veneration, Buddha image), which represents the magical display of the three secrets of the Buddhas, with the wisdom-being (ye shes pa), and for stabilizing it, is performed according to the meaning spoken in the tantras, as explained well by accomplished masters. It is divided into three parts: preliminary, main, and concluding practices. First, for the supports of body, speech, and mind (sku gsung thugs kyi rten) that possess the characteristics, at an auspicious time suitable for consecration, arrange them auspiciously in a proper place, and have the fully assembled teacher and retinue arrange the mandala, prepare abundant offerings, and the items needed for consecration, such as vases, clay, and flowers, as appropriate. Perform the activity liturgy of the deity to whom you are devoted according to the ritual, and after completing the recitation for oneself and the front, at this time, in detail, prepare the main vase, and as mentioned in the footnote here, the purification vase (rnam bum), the activity vase (las bum), and eight bathing vases, as also noted in the footnote. These eleven vases can be practiced separately, or the bathing practice can be done generally for five or one bathing vase. In short, the main vase and the activity vase are sufficient, so purify these two vases. First, holding the yellow thread of the victory vase, visualize: 'A precious vase with excellent qualities, Filled with nectar in its very center, The support and supported, all the deities of the mandala, Clear and complete like a reflection of the moon in water. One's own mind mantra light entwined on the thread, Arousing the lineage of the vase deity, rays of light radiating and gathering, Accomplishing the two benefits, and from all parts of the body, Streams of bodhicitta nectar descend, filling the vase.' Visualize in this way, and recite the root mantra of the deity, adding Shamba (shAm bu), recite aloud (dbyangs gsal), the heart mantra of the support (rten snying), su pratiShTha (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,well established), as much as possible. Similarly, for the activity vase, visualize: 'From the lotus and sun, the syllable Hūṃ transforms, Into a swirling mandala of wrathful nectar, From its body, particles of vajra nectar, Descend completely, filling the vase.' Recite oṃ vajra amRita kuNDali hana hana hūṃ phaT. And abhiSheka, etc., as much as possible. Finally, make offerings and praises, and confess faults with the hundred-syllable mantra. Offer the water in the conch shell as an offering with oṃ āḥ hūṃ, and visualize that the Buddhas dissolve into light and become inseparable from the water in the vase. By merely throwing the flower of wisdom, one enters the mandala. Bathing --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to do the practice of the eight treasure vases, do it here. In this way, the preliminary practices, including deity visualization, mantra recitation, and treasure vase practice, are completed. Consecration Main Practice Ritual Second, the actual consecration ritual has eleven parts, First, dispelling obstacles: Take three obstacle torma (Tibetan: བགེགས་གཏོར་བཤོས་བུ་, Pinyin: gek tor shö bu, literal meaning: obstacle food offering), each rotating around the support, reciting 'Om Sarva Vighnam Namah Sarva Tathagata' and other mantras, dispelling obstacles peacefully; rotate with barley wine and a cup, reciting the mantra of the four Hūṃs, dispelling obstacles with a combination of peaceful and wrathful methods. Dispelling obstacles wrathfully is: instantly transforming oneself into Vajra Hūṃ (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་ཧཱུྃ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्र हुम्, Sanskrit Romanization: vajra hūṃ, literal meaning: Diamond Hūṃ), transforming into the form of the King of Wrathful Deities, light radiating from the three seed syllables (Tibetan: འབྲུ་གསུམ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: त्रय अक्षर, Sanskrit Romanization: traya akṣara, literal meaning: three syllables) at the three places (forehead, throat, heart), inviting countless clouds of wrathful deities. Offer with 'Om Vajra Krodha Raja Saparivara Argham' and others. Praise with terrifying Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, literal meaning: Hūṃ) sounds, state the power of truth. The vidyadhara I, for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, in order to establish these supports of the body, speech, and mind of the Sugatas, if there are any obstructing evil spirits, do not stay here, go elsewhere! If you do not leave, then the Vajra fire of the wisdom of the wrathful deities will burn your heads into a hundred pieces!' Recite Sumba Hani, fumigate with Gugul incense, scatter mustard seeds, and drive away all obstacles with the intimidating sound of musical instruments. At this time, purify the inauspiciousness of the support, rotate with a cup of wine, yogurt, and mustard, purify with fire and water, and in order to purify the sins of myself and the patron (Tibetan: སྦྱིན་བདག་, Pinyin: jin dak, literal meaning: giver), throw sesame seeds into the fire, although these can be explained extensively, If briefly, the second part of the root outline is the vase bath. If you want to elaborate, the materials for washing the statue are: Nyagrodha, Udumbara, Plaksha, Visava, Gandhamunda, which are the bark of five milky trees. Although it is said that it is difficult to find in Tibet, so use the medicinal water of the five barks of Balu tree, Ombu tree, White Willow tree, Fir tree or White Sandalwood to smear and wash. Or mix the five excretions of cows with fragrances, or mix the powder of Amla and mustard, etc., to smear, rub and wash. If you can't find so much, then Guru Rinpoche (Tibetan: སློབ་དཔོན་ཀུན་སྙིང་, Pinyin: lobpon kun nying) said: 'Suka and bean flour, and five kinds of auspicious grass, like this, use bricks and other things to bathe.' Even if there is no brush of auspicious grass, there is no way. If you don't do it separately, then mix all the medicinal materials and crush them with the branches of auspicious grass.
