Is the observer the same or different? If the former, is the observer examined like the observation, or is it a different thing from the observation? If the former, the observer itself can accomplish all that is needed, and no other thing is needed, then what was previously promised is invalidated. If the latter, then the observation must become an action or a doing, because it acknowledges the connection with other things. If it is an action, it must become the basis for the occurrence of action, like a seed producing new things by generating similar kinds, or like a potter, or like a person with magical powers transforming things, or like the earth relying on it, or like the sky opening up. If the former, the observer becomes impermanent, so the desire for permanence is invalidated. If the latter, it becomes impermanent and conventional, so the desire for permanence and ultimate truth is invalidated. Just as some emanations of a magician can freely emanate, if it is also free, then some observers will not become suffering. If it is the third case, just as it serves as the basis for karmic and non-karmic causes and focuses on destruction, it must also focus on action, but it does not focus on this. If it is the fourth case, just as the sky can stretch and contract and does not obstruct space, the observer must also be focused on this, but it is not focused on this. Furthermore, just as the sky is established only as a complete separation from what is to be negated, if the observer is also established as such, then the free appearance in the mind is invalidated. If it is an action, like an axe, does engaging in work necessarily depend on the agent, or like fire, does it sometimes engage in work freely without an agent? The first case is unreasonable, because just as there is separate focus on the observer and the observed, there is no focus on the observer. If it is the second case, because of the fear of the agent ceasing, there is no need to acknowledge the person. If this person is unrelated to the observer and is another thing, then all valid cognitions are reversed, and there is no need to acknowledge a non-existent person. The fifth case is the separate establishment of defilement and purification, does this person have the characteristics of defilement and purification, or is it different from this? If the former, there will be no person different from the aggregates, because food, clothing, etc. bring benefit, and imbalance of the elements, etc. bring harm.

Because from all aspects, afflictions can only be seen in the aggregates, and cannot be seen elsewhere. If according to the second case, then the so-called afflictions and purification of "I" will disappear. In order to prevent the view that there is an "I" by using wisdom in advance and observing, does thinking arise from the cause of wisdom, or from the cause of "I"? If according to the first case, then the so-called thinking of a substantially existent "I" will disappear. If according to the second case, then it contradicts the thinking of using wisdom in advance. Is the cause of thinking permanent or impermanent? If it is permanent, then the so-called thinking will disappear. If it is impermanent, then it cannot be the thinking of "I", because it has been admitted that "I" is a permanent entity. Is the sentient being who thinks of the nature of effort, or the nature of non-effort? If according to the first case, it is also impossible to be called thinking, because it has been admitted that sentient beings are permanent, so it is unreasonable to think again. If according to the second case, then non-effort will become effort, which is contradictory. Does the thinking of sentient beings have a cause or no cause? If there is no cause, then it will become constant thinking. If there is a cause, then other causes must also be used in advance, so the "I"'s autonomous thinking will disappear. Is this thinking autonomous thinking, or is it thinking dominated by others? If according to the first case, one will not experience all the sufferings such as birth, old age, sickness, and death, because whatever one does is autonomous. If according to the second case, then it is impossible for "I" to think, because it has been admitted that "I" is autonomous. Sixth, distinguishing between entering and returning: Does a person with the characteristic of entering enter, both entering and returning, or is it thought that a person without the characteristic of entering is like this? If according to the first case, then there will be no person (pudgala) other than the aggregates, because only the collection of aggregates can be observed to enter. For example, entering through having a cause, like one's own body arising from semen and blood, etc.; entering with the nature of birth, like a sprout; entering with the nature of destruction, like a river gradually depleting; entering from one to another, like the kind of lamp entering another place; the entering of change, doing different actions and then entering other actions; like riding a vehicle and changing. If according to the second case, then "I" will not become an enterer, because it does not have the characteristic of entering.
