If impermanence is to be established because of the existence of the function of permanence, then stating the uncertainty of permanence is to show that the sign is not established as a reason, which is definitely not (the correct way of arguing). Some Tibetan scholars say that if the opponent has already admitted that permanence is empty in terms of function, then there is no need to establish that the function that can withstand observation is empty, which is also absolutely wrong. Because in our own school, there is no such idea that it is necessary to establish it in this way, so there is no need to establish it in this way for that basis. If it is in other schools, they do not admit that permanence is empty in terms of function. Even if they did not admit it before, but if it has been established by reasoning, so that they have to admit it, then if the chief and others are empty in terms of function, then it has also been established that they do not exist at all. Then, who would have the idea that it is necessary to establish that the function of that basis that can withstand observation is empty? Please point it out. So, if you ask how it should be, then if you can determine to quote the teaching of Dharmakirti, that is, the example of the latter half of the verse, it will be easy to understand. If you talk about that example, then the displayer is because he seeks to enjoy the desire of women, so he observes hoping to achieve his own wishes from that object of observation. The object of observation is some hermaphrodites. The way of observation is to think about whether the appearance is beautiful or not. The reason why it is not appropriate to observe like this is that even if that basis is beautiful in appearance, it cannot achieve its own wishes for what it is observed. This is the meaning of the example. In the way of combining the example and the meaning, the one who is similar to a woman is the opponent's discriminating observer, which is also because he hopes to achieve the fruit he wants from that basis of observation. If the opponent discriminately holds it as the basis of observation, it must have a function, which is not what is to be shown. The basis of observation depends on the situation at the time. The way of observation is whether the nature is one or not, and so on. If you hold permanence as the probandum for such a thing, then it is like holding a man who can enjoy desire as the probandum and observing, so it is reasonable to observe the characteristics. Because there is a difference in whether the fruit of what is observed can be achieved by that basis. This is the meaning. Outsiders also believe that in order for the results such as happiness and suffering to arise, it is necessary to establish their causes, such as the chief and Ishvara.

Therefore, those should be taken as the basis for examination. If done in this way, the examination of the outsiders is like a woman examining whether the body of a hermaphrodite is beautiful or not. The so-called permanent, from "function" to "what's the use of examining," this is another line of reasoning for refuting those that have not been discussed before. Now, if someone thinks, why was this fault mentioned from the beginning when grasping permanence as the basis for examination before? Before, it was just said presumptuously according to what they had grasped. Previously, in "my own self and others said," permanence was taken as the basis of the argument, and then gradually the function, and the view of no difference in nature between before and after, contradict each other.
