The doors of the Secret Assembly's oral instruction booklet. The doors of the Secret Assembly's oral instruction booklet. The doors of the Secret Assembly's oral instruction booklet. To the Rigpa Lion of Unconditional Kindness, I prostrate from my heart, please look upon me with immeasurable compassion. If I supplicate with intense white faith and devotion, please hold me in all lifetimes. Furthermore, the one who protects awareness like a ship, I bow to the feet of the supreme spiritual friend, and may the protectors befriend me as I write down the essence of your heart and the oral instructions of your mouth. In that, the characteristics of calm abiding and insight, and the order of relying on the accumulation of causes, etc., should be thoroughly understood as the stages of the path to enlightenment. Here, I will write down the oral instructions that are indispensable in those cases. In that, it is extremely important to cut off sinking and excitement in the case of both calm abiding and insight. Outwardly, The way to eliminate excitement is: If sinking and excitement are minor and only occur once in a while, then a skilled person should eliminate them by relying on mindfulness and awareness as if they were arising from another occasion. If sinking and excitement are very strong and occur frequently, then like this, if lethargy and fogginess occur again and again, then by mixing one's own mind and the clear emptiness of the sky without distinction and holding it, the mind will become clear and pure, and a desire for other objects will arise. For excitement, by practicing breath control and holding it inside, the mind will also abide, and awareness will come by separating the pure from the impure. In general, these are the oral instructions for forcefully cutting off excitement. It is necessary to know the object on which to place the mind, how to place the mind, how experience arises from meditating on the object, and the distinctions and differences between subtle and gross sinking and excitement. In insight, first of all, the measure of what is to be negated and how it grows is: First of all, how is the coemergent mind explained as just 'I'? Once that is certain, look at how that 'I' appears to the mind that thinks 'I am'. By that appearance, this mind that thinks 'I am' must determine how it grasps 'I'. In that, it is also necessary to rely on antidotes separately in order for the way it appears earlier and the way it clings later. The way to look is also to look from the side with another mind without losing the mind that thinks 'I am'. When looking like that, first

Regarding the two cases of the 'I' appearing and not appearing like a lump of butter, and when it appears, the 'I' appearing as if located in the center of the lump, and not appearing other than the lump, and when not appearing, like an empty void, and appearing like colors and shapes, these are not pure ways of appearing. If certain, this innate wisdom, the 'I' seems not to rely on anything, but appears clearly from its own side. It will come to a similar appearance when combined with the word 'haranga', and the sound 'phop phop', and the clear power, and 'lam me wa', etc. That appearance is also short-lived, and only appears in fragments. Moreover, that wisdom seems to appear like a memory, together with something that has already been established. In that way of appearing, there will also be two ways of appearing, either as one with or different from the aggregates. For example, 'I hurt' or 'my hand hurts', or without abandoning the innate appearance, saying 'I am doing something', this is clinging to self. The thought of 'it is I' is 'I will go, I will stay', etc. Having thus ascertained the way of appearing, if it is established in this way, then after considering the way in which it cannot transcend being either one with or different from the aggregates, and the way in which both one and different are harmful, if it is clearly ascertained that the 'I' exists in this way, then continuously cultivating clear ascertainment is the key to practice. At that time, it is not the case that one first clarifies the object to be negated and then thinks that it does not exist, but rather one first clarifies the object to be negated, and then focuses single-pointedly on the negation of that which is clearly born from the ascertainment that it does not exist. If done according to the key points, first is to ascertain the object to be negated, second is to ascertain the pervasion, third is to ascertain the first aspect of the subject-property, and fourth is to ascertain the second aspect of the subject-property, a total of four. If taken as four valid cognitions, they are: the valid cognition that ascertains the way the object to be negated appears, the valid cognition that ascertains one or different, the valid cognition that ascertains not being established as one, and the valid cognition that ascertains not being established as different, a total of four. Is this extracting the essence? Only those skilled in both shamatha and vipassana practice can extract the essence. In terms of eliminating obstacles, if one ascertains with the valid cognition of the first key point, then nihilism and eternalism will not arise, but the fear of falling into the extreme of self-annihilation can only be eliminated by the subsequent faultless appearance. If emptiness is meditated upon as utter nothingness, it will become meditating on the view of permanence based on true existence, therefore, wisdom and
