A Commentary on the Ultimate Instructions on the Stages of Manifest Enlightenment, Subsequently Composed. A Commentary on the Ultimate Instructions on the Stages of Manifest Enlightenment, Subsequently Composed. A Commentary on the Ultimate Instructions on the Stages of Manifest Enlightenment, Subsequently Composed, is presented. To the feet of the noble and venerable ones, endowed with great compassion without objectification, I prostrate with reverence at all times. To the essence of the Victorious Ones, the embodiment of all wisdom and knowledge, the Bhagavan Manjushri, and to the feet of the great Vajradhara, the Lord Nagarjuna and his spiritual sons, who possess the eight powers, I take refuge with great reverence. The ultimate instructions on the stages of manifest enlightenment have three aspects: the meaning of the title, the meaning of the text, and the meaning of the entry. First: Abhi (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is manifest. Sam (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is complete. Bodhi (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is enlightenment. Krama (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is stages. Therein, manifest is manifested, complete is without remainder or true, and enlightenment is realization. Second, there are two: the branch of entering into composition, and the instructions with branches. First, there are two: prostration and vowing to compose. First: The one who shows the emptiness of all things, the luminosity of suchness, without inversion, I prostrate to Vajrasattva. Thus, in accordance with the occasion of this text, praise is offered. Second: By the word "te," drawing in the remainder, having prostrated, I shall explain this sequence of manifest enlightenment. Thus, the vow to compose is made. Fourth: It relies on vajra recitation, the unsurpassed intention, and the sequence of self-blessing. Second, there are four: making oneself a vessel for the instructions, giving the instructions, offering the benefits of the instructions, and advising to meditate on the instructions. First, there are three: pleasing the guru, offering the guru the benefits of empowerment, and the guru bestowing empowerment. First: The four phrases beginning with "This is" show the guru as superior to Vajradhara, in reliance on protecting disciples with teachings. For that reason, it is necessary to please him, as shown by the four phrases beginning with "That is." Second: The four phrases beginning with "Whatever is available" show the offering of well-blessed mudras, and the offering in the center of the mandala of the gathering, as in the ritual of the gathering circle. Third: Then
