Even when disappearing, they do not become invisible, However, the Victorious Ones in dreams, If their essence is utterly peaceful, Who could possibly perceive The distinctions of their birth and cessation? Therefore, son of noble family, just as in the example, the Tathagatas should be understood as having no coming or going. Like an illusory person, Yama, water in a mirage, Just like the Victorious Ones in dreams, Those who realize all phenomena are devoid of inherent existence, Do not grasp the coming and going of the Able Ones. How does the Sugata grasp emptiness? Because it is emptiness, there is no birth or cessation. Non-existence appears in the grasping of delusion, Whose realization is that, their object of focus is pacified. Thus, although the Tathagatas are from the very beginning devoid of birth and cessation, The eye of wisdom is blinded by the cataract of ignorance, And to those with strong attachments who lack the eye medicine of realizing emptiness, The manner of appearing as birth and cessation is explained with the example of the sound of a lute, therefore it is said: Adorned with various jewels, A delightful lute made of lapis lazuli, Adorned with strings of vibrant colors, Is constantly gazed upon by eyes of attachment, When young celestial musicians with tinkling bracelets, Surround it, holding bows, It generates joy in the minds of those with desire, Although the sound of the lute is pleasing and melodious, When the wise examine the body, strings, and bow, And ask from where these come, It is not from each individually, nor from the collection, This sound does not abide anywhere, its essence is empty. When its cause is also sought in this way, It is merely a name, merely a convention, merely an imputation. Just as the water of a mirage pool at any time, Is not the cause of a lotus in the sky, With a false cause, No true result can ever be produced. However, in the presence of those with grasping, When the imputed conditions appear to exist, And appear as non-existent, The sound of the lute also arises and ceases. Likewise, the bodies of the Victorious Ones, When the interdependent conditions are closely present, Appear to arise, and when those are absent, Appear to cease to those with grasping. Just as when the roots of a flourishing tree are severed, There is no place for the branches and leaves to grow, Whoever does not perceive the Tathagata, They also do not grasp all the elaborations of phenomena.
