How should we apply the analogy to the transgressions arising from the primary consciousness, apart from actions? Regarding "taking gold and silver": If one does not regard self-owned gold, silver, and other precious objects as impermissible in their essence, but rather possesses them with the thought of wealth, then one has transgressed. Regarding "the three types of degeneration": Firstly, if one does not cut the hairline and topknot, and unnecessarily wears and carries the marks of a householder, such as white clothes, then one has degenerated from abandoning the marks of a householder. If one resides in one's own monastery, it is permitted to keep hair and facial hair up to two finger-widths; if one resides near a village, it is permitted to keep hair and facial hair up to one and a half finger-widths. If one exceeds these limits by more than half a finger-width, one must confess as many times as the number of half finger-widths exceeded. Secondly, if one does not have the marks of an ordained person, such as the upper and lower robes, one should make them. If one is able to make them but does not, or does not wear them, or if one accepts a naked deity, or wears clothes made of hair, or clothes made of owl feathers, etc., unnecessarily wearing and carrying the marks of non-Buddhists, then one has degenerated from taking the marks of an ordained person. Thirdly, if one does not respect the Khenpo, or does not regard him as a Khenpo with contemptuous thoughts, and does not carry out the instructions that accord with the Dharma, even though one is able to, then one has degenerated from requesting the Khenpo, and one should confess these misdeeds. Furthermore, if one violates the general precepts of refuge, such as offering to the Three Jewels, etc., and the individual precepts, such as not taking refuge in worldly deities like Ishvara after taking refuge in the Buddha, then one should also confess these misdeeds. As applied to most cases previously, even if some actions have not manifested in body and speech, it is considered that confession is necessary merely by the arising of the motivation to accept and transgress. As it says in the Root Sutra: "Even those who have not taken full ordination or monastic vows should confess transgressions of what they have taken." And in the Extensive Commentary: "It is evident that the intention is that all transgressions of what a novice has taken, except for root downfalls, should be confessed." In the Root Commentary of the Three Hundred Verses, it says that the motivation arose...

From... until it does not come out in body and speech, it also appears that there is something that should be restrained. No transgression (lTung med): Holding and abandoning, / Similarly, digging the ground, / Touching jewels and touching fire, / Eating after abandoning, / Eating without being given, / Similarly, accumulating and eating, / Climbing trees and cutting trees, / Discarding unclean green grass, / Destroying seeds and the basis of learning, / Abandoning the monthly routine monastery, / Accumulating and the novice monk sleeping, / Not speaking and walking, a total of eighteen. Thus, from holding and abandoning the ten-day clothes, to going without speaking from the place of work, half and eighteen items are declared as no transgression. Half refers to the laity, who need to guard against the sin of after noon, and novice monks do not need to guard each other, so it is counted as half. Holding and... refers to clothes and bowls, showing that both the ten-day holding and abandoning are absent. The basis of learning refers to the basis of learning of holding, the basis of learning of abandoning, which is the explanation of the end of each of the other articles, and it is not its own showing a no transgression. Similarly, digging the ground, etc., each article shows a no transgression. The summary of no transgression above the basis of learning is quoted from the "Light" spoken in the "Detailed Explanation". The remaining two hundred and twelve are the sins that should be restrained. It refers to the two hundred and fifty-three sins actually included in the total number, the remainder of the novice monk who has received, passed away, and become no transgression, from taking out to not throwing saliva into the water, etc., two hundred and twelve, except for a few such as the absence of monastic robes and the residence of heretics who actually live, all the sins committed by the monks included in the seventeen things, the novice monks should restrain. The seven items from singing and dancing to rosary beads belong to the fundamental learning sins, and the four sins such as sitting on a high bed, etc., belong to the learning sins of repairing bed legs, the remainder of the sins of wearing white clothes, the decline of abandoning the home appearance, and the sins of the other two declines are all fundamental sins, so these are two

None of the fifty-three transgressions encompassed by the vows are counted individually. Cutting down a tree that is not a transgression and destroying seeds are both counted as a single transgression for a monk, actually included in the vows. Thus, by the power of recording the sacred words, may all beings guard the supreme precepts, and by the foot of unremitting diligence, may they reach the state of omniscience. This is a draft recorded according to the instructions of the master. The victorious doctrine's lotus garden is fragrant with benefit and happiness, the petals of explanation and practice bloom, scattering the essence of honey. For the benefit of all beings, from the great Dharma monastery of Dege Lhundrub Teng (Dege County, Sichuan), this rain of Dharma giving is spread. Auspicious! The Novice Monk's Training, "The Celestial Garden."
