Knowing the ways of concealment, he hid during the day and traveled by night, fleeing to Ngari (present-day western Tibet Autonomous Region, China). Unable to stay there, he traveled north, escaping to Sogu Lung in Amdo (present-day Qinghai Province). Through the immeasurable power of prayer, the efforts of the great master Gewa Rabsel (Good Protector) and his three disciples rekindled the flame of the Dharma in Amdo. Similarly, in the upper regions, the Dharma was gradually revived by three masters with names ending in "Pa". Thereafter, the panditas of the Vikramashila Monastery in the sacred land, such as Jowo Dipamkara (Atisha), the crown jewel of the ocean of panditas, and the Kashmiri pandita Shakya Shri, renowned as the third Buddha to come, arrived in this land, causing the precious tree of the Dharma, primarily the Vinaya Pitaka, to spread many branches. Similarly, in the realm of Vajrayana, many holy beings who were learned and accomplished also appeared. All of this arose from the inexhaustible power of the Tathagata's activities. They correctly entered the path of the Dharma, providing great benefit to sentient beings directly and indirectly, and became the sole guides leading beings easily to liberation and omniscience.
