Holding the vase, clearly visualize the seed syllable ཏཾཾ (Tibetan, Devanagari: त़ं, Romanized Sanskrit: tam, literal meaning: seed syllable) of the great secret of self-origination on the crown of the deceased's head, from which light radiates. By empowering with the vase and washing with water, may all the karma and imprints of being born as a deity be purified and cleansed. This is the water of the nature of diligence, which purifies the stains of laziness, water well-mixed with the fragrance of diligence, bathed by one skilled in bathing. Om Ah Hum Svaha. Recite ཏཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: त़ं, Romanized Sanskrit: tam, literal meaning: seed syllable) and state the year, washing away the sins and obscurations of so-and-so, Śāntiṃ Kuru Ye Svāhā (Tibetan, Devanagari: शान्तिं कुरु ये स्वाहा, Romanized Sanskrit: śāntiṃ kuru ye svāhā, literal meaning: Pacify, do, may it be fulfilled). Holding the vase at the heart, this is the water of the nature of discipline, which purifies the stains of broken vows, water well-mixed with the fragrance of protection, bathed by one skilled in bathing. Om Ah Hum Svaha. Wash away all the sins and obscurations of so-and-so, Śāntiṃ Kuru Ye Svāhā (Tibetan, Devanagari: शान्तिं कुरु ये स्वाहा, Romanized Sanskrit: śāntiṃ kuru ye svāhā, literal meaning: Pacify, do, may it be fulfilled). Place the vase on the crown of the head, this is the great empowerment vajra, revered by all three realms, born from the secret three places of the five Buddha families, now given. Om Vajra Sattva Samaya, Manupalaya, Vajra Sattva Teno Patittha, Dridho Me Bhava, Suto Shyo Me Bhava, Supo Shyo Me Bhava, Anurakto Me Bhava, Sarva Siddhi Mem Prayaccha, Sarva Karma Suza Me, Chittam Shriya Kuru Hum Ha Ha Ha Ha Ho Bhagavan, Sarva Tathagata Vajra Ma Me Munca Vajri Bhava Maha Samaya Sattva Ah Abhisinca Hum. By empowering in this way, may the five aggregates and twelve sources be purified into the essence of a noble lineage. Then, sever the connection with samsara: Hey, deceased one, listen! Although you have obtained the rare leisure and endowment, because it is an aggregate of the four elements, you cannot escape fear, the nature of conditioned phenomena now descends upon you. Those who remain behind cannot transcend this truth either, as it is said in the tantra of the pile of jewels: For gross material forms, there is no place to stay, how strange. For the life of a steadfast person, there is no fixed time, how strange. Because you know these things, you are alone, there is no place where you can find comfort. I will not be attached to any place, enjoyment, relatives, or friends, because I will not follow you.

In the Sutra on the Method of Following the King's Instructions, it says: "When the king goes in times of danger, enjoyments, friends, and relatives do not follow. Wherever the noble one goes, karma follows like the body and its shadow." Since what is said has come to pass on oneself, at this time when one can only rely on karma, even if one generates the suffering of attachment to those things, it will not benefit you, but will instead become an obstacle to showing the way. Just as in last night's dream there were enjoyments and friends, but upon waking there was nothing, recognize the flaw that samsara is not truly established, and forcibly cut off attachment. The consciousness of the bardo is merely an aggregation of the four mental aggregates, without the bondage of a coarse support, and is easily changed by small causes, like a boat in water. Therefore, we have taken hold of you with the profound ritual of the unsurpassed secret mantra, so generate supreme devotion to the lama and the Three Jewels, and proceed without doubt on the path as instructed. Having said that, the method of training the path is: If you see the door of the Great Perfection's essential instructions, read the Teachings once. In terms of common refuge, in the manner of supplicating for protection and unerring aim, as it says in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "The messengers of Yama, like fearful forms, are seized by those with flesh and blood, and are struck by the eight great fears. What need is there to say how utterly wretched they are? Who will protect me well from this great fear?" With eyes wide open in terror, one seeks refuge in the four directions. Therefore, I take refuge from this very day in the Victorious One, the protector of beings, who strives for the sake of protecting beings, the mighty one who dispels all fears. I also take refuge in the Dharma that is understood by him, which dispels the fears of samsara, and in the assembly of Bodhisattvas. Trembling with the fear of death, I offer this to Kuntu Zangpo (Samantabhadra). I also offer it to Jampal Yang (Manjushri). To the compassionate Avalokiteshvara, I cry out with a pitiful voice, and pray for protection for this deceased one. And to the noble Akashagarbha and Kshitigarbha, and to all the great compassionate protectors, I seek refuge and cry out from the depths of my heart. Whoever sees, the messengers of Yama.
