In the Madhyāntavibhāga-bhāṣya, to show the way to transcend all elaborations, it says: 'Unreal is only the conceptualization; in it, the two are not present; emptiness is present in it; in it, that is also not present; not empty, not non-empty, therefore all is explained; by existence, by non-existence, by existence, it is said; that is the Middle Way.' Thus, the knowledge that appears as various phenomena, which is not true, is merely conceptualization and exists conventionally. However, the aspects of the apprehended and the apprehender of the appearance are merely imputed by the mind. Therefore, it does not exist even conventionally, and thus it is liberated from the two extremes. In this way, the mere conventional existence of conceptualization liberates from the extremes of non-existence and annihilation. Because it transcends the imputation of the apprehended and the apprehender and the dependent phenomena, it is liberated from the extremes of permanence and existence. In that state, the nature of emptiness exists as the nature of reality, but the inherent existence divided by the two truths is impossible in the knowable. Regarding that principle, the Ornament of the Sutras says: 'The Suchness is in all, without difference, yet pure; therefore, the nature of the Tathagata, all beings possess that essence.' That is to say, because it dwells in sentient beings as the essence, it is necessary to abandon the two obscurations through the power of the path truth. Because it dwells in the Buddha in a manifest way, there are no two obscurations to be abandoned in the realm of reality. Therefore, in order to abandon the obscurations from the perspective of the individual's mind, it is determined that the imputed is also non-existent in the conventional truth, and that the dependent is only existent in the conventional truth, and that the perfectly established is free from all elaborations. Therefore, the ways of establishing the tenets of self-emptiness and other-emptiness, and the different ways of classification, when the wisdom that establishes the tenets is exhausted, the naturally pure way is described in the King Who Controls Dharanis Sutra: 'From the beginning, it is exhausted, therefore it is called exhausted.' Thirdly, in this land of snow mountains, due to the power of the activities of the Buddhas, there are eight different traditions and transmissions of the practice lineage teachings. Among them, for the yogi Kāruṇa, there are fifteen instructions from the Indian dakinis. In the Dharma language of the completion stage, it says: 'Benefit and harm, abandonment and realization are not accomplished; this is the nature of ultimate truth.'

To avoid the extremes of slander against the teachings, this is titled "Statements That Do Not Alter the Nature of Reality." How is it avoided? Although the Tathagata does not speak in a dualistic manner, due to His great compassion and skillful means, He tames beings according to their faculties, intelligence, and capacities with various vehicles and tenets. Ultimately, these all converge and incline towards the single reality. Just as it is said, great rivers flow into the ocean. Therefore, for those trainees whose minds are not obscured, who are easy to tame, easy to purify, and possess great accumulations of merit, by showing the oral instructions of taking the result as the path, He directly instructs them on their innate nature, not through inferring the nature of reality. This is the suffering of those who contemplate contradictory interpretations of terms. For those who have not established benefit and harm, and abandonment and realization, this is the characteristic of ultimate truth. Thus, benefit is all virtuous dharmas, and harm is all sinful dharmas. If both are contained by the Four Noble Truths and the Path Truth distinguished by definitive and provisional meanings, then in the realm of reality, both benefit and harm are not permissible. As the Tantra of Perfect Union states: "His sins and merits, both are mere designations; the wise should abandon them." And as the Precious Garland of Advice states: "The act of sin and merit is transcended; it possesses the meaning of employing the profound." If the sins to be abandoned do not bring harm, and the virtues to be adopted do not bring benefit, then why are all sentient beings not effortlessly liberated? Because the realm of reality is free from all elaborations, let alone being an object of perception for ordinary beings. Even for Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas who only see one aspect of cessation, and even for noble beings, it is not directly perceived, hence it is said to "possess the meaning of employing the profound." Even if benefit and harm of good and bad are not established in the way of abiding in form, it must be established that the qualities of abandonment and realization necessarily exist in connection with that state. Because you yourselves also assert that the two obscurations must be abandoned by relying on the Path Truth.
