Pages 401 to 535. Pages 401 to 535. Thus it is said. However, this is a statement with a hidden meaning, spoken with consideration for the yoga master who has realized the equality of self and others, happiness and suffering, samsara and nirvana. Such yogis are as rare as phoenix feathers in this world. They disregard the infallibility of karma and conceal their reckless actions with empty words. These foolish ones, like phurbas, who have not yet integrated the realization of vast liberation into their minds, practice tantric conduct literally. This is merely a superficial resemblance, far removed from true practice, and regrettable. Those who aspire to emulate this behavior are going too far and should consider that they cannot transfer the burden of ripening karma to others. Secondly, confessing through the perfection of the four powers will purify even the deeds of the five heinous crimes. As it is said: 'Obscurations are all conventional truths; if purified, they will undoubtedly be removed.' However, if one does not immediately counteract with such a special antidote, even if one's own karma does not ripen immediately, it will never be wasted. As it says in the Sutra of One Hundred Karmas: 'The actions of sentient beings, even after hundreds of eons, will not be wasted. When the causes and conditions come together, the result will ripen.' Therefore, whether one has accumulated good or bad karma, whether large or small, even the smallest part accompanies one like a body and its shadow. When the time comes, one must experience it oneself. One should repeatedly contemplate this and always make unerring choices. Furthermore, one should not think that only great deeds have such power and that small deeds do not accumulate obscurations. In the Vinaya Sutra it says: 'Do not despise small sins, thinking they are harmless; a small spark can burn a mountain of grass.' Therefore, one should be very cautious even about the smallest parts of unwholesome actions. If one is unintentionally influenced, one should immediately confess when there is such a profound method of confession through the four powers. Third, purification through antidotes is the virtuous act that serves as an antidote to small non-virtuous actions.

If one practices diligently, the results of non-virtuous actions cannot easily cause harm. An example of this is: When Lord Atiśa was the abbot of Vikramashila Monastery, Maitripa expelled him because he relied slightly on internal substances. That night, Lord Atiśa learned in a dream that Maitripa was a Bodhisattva, and due to the karmic result of being expelled, he would be reborn as a snake capable of circling Mount Meru three times. When he asked what would help, the other replied that scattering seven handfuls of salt each day would help, or going to Tibet would help. This was only for temporary correction, and even such special Bodhisattvas, for small obscurations not tainted by their own desires, would rely on such a degree of remedy. Similarly, before the Teacher manifested in the womb of Yasodharā, the emanation of the blessed son Vajrapani, Rāhula, in his previous life, when he was reborn as a king, had caused a sage to starve for six days. And in the mother's previous life, merely offering a vase filled with milk caused her to remain in the womb for six years. To show the experience of the maturation of karma when the Teacher attained enlightenment, and Rāhula was released from the womb at the same time as the moon was eclipsed by Rāhula, therefore, for us ordinary beings, karma is like having no end. So, for those small virtuous deeds that are merely mixed with wrong livelihood, do not be complacent, but strive to practice the remedies diligently through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, and always be diligent. Fourth, if none of the above three are present, then it is karma that must be experienced. For example, the monk Tharpa Nakpo suffered the sufferings of the extremely hot hells, the extremely cold hells, the lotus-like cracking hells, the reviving hells, the black line hells, the crushing hells, the crying hells, the great crying hells, the hot hells, the extremely hot hells, the uninterrupted hells, and so on. Similarly, there are unbearable hot and cold hells such as the blister hells, the burst blister hells, and so on, with eighty intermediate kalpas counted as one great kalpa. Such hells were experienced twelve thousand times, and then he was reborn as a hungry ghost, suffering from hunger and thirst for six great kalpas. If not destroyed by the remedies, then oneself and other sentient beings
