Ah! If a Bhikshu who practices Yoga contemplates impurity and the concept of bones, and it appears there, then why wouldn't it appear because of the accumulation of beginningless habits? The son of the gods said: Why do various forms appear due to the power of accumulated habits? Manjushri said: All appearances are uncertain. The appearance of some is the darkness of others. For example, even with just the earth, some perceive it as earth, some perceive it as fire, some perceive it as enjoyment, and some perceive it as suffering. Some perceive fire as fire, some perceive it as enjoyment, some perceive it as a dwelling, and some perceive it as food. Some perceive water as water, some perceive it as fire, some perceive it as earth, some perceive it as nectar, and some perceive it as a dwelling. Some perceive space as space, some perceive it as a dwelling, and some perceive it as earth. Therefore, because it is uncertain, appearances occur in any way due to the power of habits. So it is. Thus, perceiving the four elements as their respective selves is the appearance of human beings. Moreover, even on the same earth, hell beings perceive it as fire, farmers perceive it as enjoyment, and those oppressed by karma perceive it as suffering. Similarly, fire is perceived as enjoyment by fire gods, as a dwelling by fire-bodied pretas, and as food by fire insects. Likewise, water is perceived as fire by hell beings, as pus and blood by pretas, as earth by the inhabitants of Hatidvipa, as nectar by gods, as jewels and showers of flowers by Paranirmitavasavartins, and as a dwelling by nagas. Space is perceived as a dwelling by Tirthikas and as earth by gods. From the Two Truths: Though the object is one, minds are different; Seeing without achieving meaning is thus. So it is. All of these are the ways in which beings' own karmic appearances and habits are merely adorned by conceptual thoughts. In the Guhyagarbha Tantra it says: By grasping at conceptual thought as self, Forcefully tying knots in the sky. Without bondage and without liberation, Primordially spontaneously perfect is the Buddha Dharma. Various displays are made to teach. So it is. Even so, the object of appearance is not the mind. Just as the reflection of a face enters a mirror, it arises dependently.

It is merely a cause for manifestation. Faces and mirrors have never been mixed. Thus, when the image of a face appears in a mirror, the clear mirror itself serves as the basis for the appearance of the image, and it is related to it in the form of a face, or it is merely the cause of the manifestation, the gathering of the energy of the face. The image of the face is not the real face, nor is it a form different from the face. Similarly, the various phenomena that appear in illusion are merely the dependent arising of cause and effect illusion, and are not established as external realities. As the noble Samadhiraja Sutra says: In the surface of a mirror or in a vessel of sesame oil, when a woman looks at her face adorned, the circle of her face appears completely, yet it is not existent, nor is it non-existent. All phenomena should be understood in the same way. Its nature is also, when approached, the manner of arising from the gathering of the apprehended and the apprehender. In the place of appearance without existence, the mind of delusion that grasps, like seeing a patterned rope and grasping it as a snake. The first consciousness is the object of apprehension, and afterwards, engaging in discrimination is the apprehender. The characteristic of appearance is appearing without existence, not different from the consciousness of a dream, but the sudden mind of delusion that grasps it as such, for example, taking the external object of the aggregates of form, the first moment of seeing a patterned rope, although it is not a snake, without doubt, it is conceived as a snake, this is the part of the mind produced by the aggregate of feeling, the first moment is the object of apprehension. The mind of the apprehender is born from the subsequent mental factors that discriminate, it is the nature of the aggregate of perception. As it is said in the conduct of Avalokiteshvara: Among them, the apprehended is the mind that grasps the object, and the apprehender is born from the mind that discriminates it. Thus, those who do not understand and are full of pride, believe that the apprehended is merely the external, coarse object of appearance, and the apprehender is only their own consciousness, which is an even greater delusion than illusion, in order to refute this view. If the appearance as a snake is the apprehended, and the apprehender is said to be the autonomous consciousness, then even a person who cannot distinguish between appearance and the object of appearance will exist or not exist along with the appearance itself. This is the meaning of what is said. This much of the apprehended and the apprehender
