Commentary on Chapter Seven. Commentary on Chapter Seven. The Second Volume of the Commentary on the "Treasury of Qualities," the Chariot of the Two Truths. Having thus taken refuge, in order to initially distinguish the characteristics for entering the actual path of the Great Vehicle. The realm of the mind of enlightenment is like a pond in the Lesser Vehicle. The minds of Hearers and Solitary Realizers whose lineage has declined. Awakened by the power of the captain of emptiness and compassion. They go to the ocean of the Great Vehicle, the island of omniscience. There, seeing all existence as a pit of fire, driven by the desire to attain liberation from suffering and the pacification of afflictions, from the path of the three trainings, like the bliss of the heavens, the peaceful liberation of non-return is only in the path of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, but the aspect of exhausting faults and attaining qualities is a hope, so even one's own benefit is not ultimately perfected. What need is there to mention the accomplishment of the great work of benefiting others? For this reason, the path of the Lesser Vehicle does not turn towards the field of benefiting others, but in the womb of peace, like a pond or a spring of water in a puddle, the power of the mind of enlightenment diminishes. In the end, it is necessary for the Buddhas to urge them to awaken the lineage of entering the path of the Great Vehicle. Therefore, the entrance to the path of those with intelligence is only the Great Vehicle, as it is said in the Condensed Perfection of Wisdom: "Those two vehicles that have no power to accomplish the benefit of the world, should be abandoned forever. The Victorious Conqueror taught the vehicle of compassion, those of one taste of benefiting others enter into that nature." So it is. What is the cause? Focusing only on one's own benefit is a practice common even to extremely ignorant animals. The conduct of a great person is to be solely devoted to the benefit and happiness of other sentient beings. As the teacher Chandragomin said: "Even animals eat a few blades of grass that are very easy to find. Even when tormented by extreme thirst, they happily drink when they find water. This is the majesty of one who strives to benefit others, this is happiness, this is the ability of a person, this is supreme." Thus, the happiness, majesty, and great power of the nature of a person's ability are the means of taking on the burden of the benefit of others, and it is reasonable to do so. He also said: "The world is covered with a cloud of ignorance, and beings are confused."

Seeing helplessly falling into the raging fire of suffering, like a great fire spreading on the head, whoever is anxious and strives, these are the true men, these are the wise ones, as it is said. The essence of the five perfections, such as generosity, is like iron ore, not yet revealed, completely decayed. Skillful means and wisdom are like the elixir of alchemy, which immediately transforms it into great value. Likewise, these five aspects of skillful means, such as generosity, are like iron ore that has not been revealed as great enlightenment when not grasped by the perfection of wisdom. When the essence of the Great Vehicle, the mind of enlightenment, and the essence of wisdom, emptiness, are combined like the elixir of alchemy, it is the unerring cause of Buddhahood. From the perspective of entry, there are the Great Vehicle of the Perfections and the Great Vehicle of Secret Mantra. The essence of both is that when the mind of enlightenment arises in the continuum, one is a person of the Great Vehicle. Without it, whatever qualities there may be, such as meditating on emptiness and nihilism, ethics, and the stable pride of appearing as a deity, are inferior paths, conflicting with the Great Vehicle. Therefore, it is not enough for the Dharma to be the Great Vehicle; it is crucial that the continuum of the individual enters the Great Vehicle. Therefore, the mind of enlightenment itself should not be widely propagated verbally. As it is said in the Gandavyuha Sutra: "Son of good family, the mind of enlightenment is like the seed of all the Buddhadharmas." Thus it is said. Because the skillful means of compassion and the wisdom of emptiness, the mind of enlightenment that unites the two, arise from the four immeasurables, the ground of aspiration and practice, and the trainings learned from practice. Among them, compassion prevents falling into the extreme of peace, and wisdom prevents falling into the extreme of existence. This is the characteristic of the Bodhisattva path. As Vimalamitra said: "Wisdom does not abide in existence, compassion does not abide in peace, Nirvana and samsara do not abide." Therefore, if there is no mind of enlightenment that unites the two, like a bird with one wing broken, unable to fly, the way cannot be traversed. In the Dohakosha it says: "Com-
