Chapter Nine Chapter Nine If, in the past, without proper examination, one has made a rash vow, and still harbors doubts, then by the power of the wisdom of the Buddhas and their heirs, one will be able to avoid being seized by evil spirits, and thus abide in the path of taking and abandoning after careful consideration. If I break my vow, I will deceive all sentient beings, and thus wander in the endless realms of suffering. Therefore, even the slightest happiness of sentient beings, I will not destroy for my own benefit, and I will not do anything that ruins my own future. Possessing both the cause of downfall and the power of bodhicitta, no matter what role one plays in samsara, if one has attained the fruit, one will be bound for a long time. Therefore, a person who abandons the precepts is truly a madman. Even for the slightest cause of harm, those who are consumed by anger and pride can endure the punishment of swords and spears, and will not give up until they achieve their goal. Then, for the powerful afflictions that are always and everywhere my enemies, I will wage war against them, and I will not give up until I have resolved the hatred. How can I abandon the vow to protect the precepts? Now that I am imprisoned in the prison of afflictions, if I am unable to save myself, how can I save all sentient beings from the ocean of suffering, and unshakably achieve liberation? On the ground of mindfulness and wisdom, the seedling of bodhicitta is easy to grow. Therefore, for this non-retreating bodhicitta, one should diligently strive to purify its defilements and make it grow. Among them, there are twenty categories of downfalls: stealing the property of the Three Jewels, etc., are the five belonging to the king; destroying towns and villages, etc., are the five belonging to the ministers; expounding emptiness without having studied, etc., are the eight belonging to ordinary people; and abandoning the aspiration and practice minds. In short, even if one sees evil in a dream, one should immediately confess with the three aggregates. Relying on the loss of aspiration mind and the arising of opposing factors, abandoning the three unfavorable conditions of the precepts, if one loses it during the session, then with a heart of regret, one should pray to Akashagarbha Bodhisattva before dawn, and confess the downfalls with the seven-branch offering. Completely giving one's own happiness to others, and being able to endure the suffering of others, this great courage of giving and taking should be continuously practiced, and one should vow to never be separated until enlightenment. The four immeasurable precepts of aspiration mind, from gratitude, loving-kindness arises, from loving-kindness, compassion arises, from compassion, bodhicitta arises, and it is born endlessly.

Through the power of the mantra, may it be truly accomplished. Like a newly born infant, foolish and ignorant, Using the mother's lap as a bathroom, Touching all impurities with their hands. Nourishing with milk, covering with bodily contact, Preferring death to being a small child. For those who can endure all sins, sufferings, and harsh words, Yet despise and kill kindness and service, What ritual could be more chaotic than this? This land, along with the mountains, is not my burden, The heavy burden of ingratitude is like a poisonous substance, Swallowed by a person into their stomach. Therefore, all sentient beings, infinite and boundless, Have been my mothers, bestowing kindness, a sacred grace. Remembering this, may the four qualities of love, etc., increase, For those who know and repay kindness, May they be served with supreme treasures. May the aspiration be like the new moon in autumn, May the unfavorable conditions, like Rahu devouring it, The four black dharmas, be banished far away. Deceiving those worthy of offerings, doubting the merits of others, And connecting with the place of regret. Slandering the holy ones, proclaiming unpleasant words, Deceitful and cunning actions, misleading others. If any of the four dharmas are lost, experience and aspiration vanish, Regret and remedies are not applied, time has passed, In that instant, the mind of enlightenment is lost. The most powerful remedies are the four white dharmas: Even at the cost of life, never intentionally lie. For the sons of the Buddhas, show respect and praise. With a heart free of deceit, care for all sentient beings, Placing everything on the path to enlightenment. From the perspective of stability, the four recognitions to protect: Recognizing the virtuous friend as the Buddha, Recognizing the Dharma taught by them as the path, Recognizing those who practice it as companions, Recognizing all sentient beings as one's only child, These are the correct ways to train in aspiration. The training for entering, the six perfections, The first five are the supreme accumulation of merit, The last one is the great accumulation of wisdom, Without relying on both, there is no Buddhahood. Adding skillful means, power, aspiration, and wisdom, there are ten. The three sons of the Buddhas accomplish through wisdom, power, and strength. First for oneself, then desiring to liberate beings, The Bodhicitta of vast intention, like a king. Desiring to liberate oneself and beings simultaneously, The mind of supreme wisdom, like a boatman. Liberating beings first, then attaining peace.
