Thus, the phrase "other treatises and disciples' teachings are flawed" distinguishes the qualities of the teacher of the teacher and the Dharma taught by him from others. Third, there are five distinctions: distinguishing from the aspects of the object to be expressed, the expression, the antidote, the disciples to be tamed, and the favorable conditions. First, distinguishing from the aspect of the object to be expressed, there are two truths. As stated in the Root Wisdom: "The Buddhas teach the Dharma, relying on the two truths." In short, it abides in the nature of the provisional and the ultimate. As stated in the Teaching of the Noble Inexhaustible Intelligence: "Teaching the establishment of conventional truth is of provisional meaning; teaching the establishment of ultimate truth is of definitive meaning." Second, distinguishing from the aspect of expression, there are twelve categories of scriptures. As stated in the Essence of the Eight Thousand Commentaries: "Sutras, songs, prophecies, verses, self-utterances, causes, metaphors, narratives, birth stories, extensive wonders, and definitive treatises are the twelve categories of scriptures." Therefore, the Sutra category is briefly mentioned as sutras of verses and prose, which are easy to distinguish, easy to explain, easy to grasp, complete the assembly with respect for the Dharma, realize the Dharma nature in the continuum, gain faith after knowing the Buddha, gain faith after knowing the Dharma and Sangha, touch the supreme state of dwelling in bliss in the visible Dharma, satisfy the minds of the holy ones by settling with eloquent speech, and see the ten benefits of being counted among the wise. The category of songs is the middle and end of what is to be explained, sung in verses, or any sutra that is said to be of provisional meaning because there are still other places to be examined. The category of prophecies mainly speaks of prophecies of past and future events, or any sutra that distinguishes intentions and prophesies, and is said to be of definitive meaning. The category of verses is composed of two or three or up to six verses.

Those are the ones that have been pacified. The division of discourses is: In order to solely establish the teachings without relying on others' requests, the Blessed One arose from meditative absorption and said to the assembly of monks, "This discourse should be discoursed in this way," and so on. The division of topics is: Specifically speaking to some individuals, or saying, "On this basis, in this circumstance, when this event occurs, such and such precepts should be established," and so on. As stated in the second volume of the Grammar, "Explaining how the Sutra Pitaka and Vinaya Pitaka, etc., initially arose, discussing their origins," and so on. The division of realizations is: In order for the listeners to thoroughly understand the meaning and recognize its characteristics, using examples drawn from ancient stories to clearly illustrate the meaning of the Dharma. The division of births is: Showing where and in what circumstances the Blessed One, in the past, as a Bodhisattva, entered the ocean, grasped the sprouts of birth, and what kinds of ascetic practices he performed. The extensive division is: Showing the path of great beings, the ground of the Bodhisattva Pitaka, and the perfections (Paramitas), etc., in an extremely vast and profound manner. The division of marvels is: The teachings that reveal the wondrous and extraordinary knowledge, miraculous powers, blessings, etc., arising from the Hearers (Shravakas), Bodhisattvas, and Fully Awakened Buddhas. The division of ascertainments is: Accurately revealing the meaning of the Sutra Pitaka, etc., by ascertaining all phenomena through their own and common characteristics. Third, dividing from the perspective of antidotes, there are the three Pitakas, namely, the general definition, the individual characteristics, and the reasons for establishing them as the three Pitakas. First, in Sanskrit, it is called Pitaka. When translated into Tibetan, it means "heap" or "collection," because all the phenomena to be known or learned are collected in this, it is called "Pitaka." For example, in the Vulture Peak Mountain in the city of Magadha, many small containers are gathered, or the name "container" is derived from the meaning of containing. Similarly, in these three Pitakas, the twelve branches of scripture are contained.
