It is longer than profound. So it is said. Therefore, establishing decisive refutations on profound views is an unforgivable fault. Therefore, establishing the profound meaning of the Vajra words' continuum, which establishes the definitive meaning on the nature of knowledge arising from meditation, is not established by knowledge arising from conceptual thought. In the Explication of the Intention of the Noble Ones, it is also said: The Bodhisattva Dharma-uttara asked: When I went to the realm of the Tathagata called Great Fame, the arrogant ones, many non-Buddhists contemplated meaningless characteristics, measured, speculated, and sought, but without realizing the true meaning, those of evil wisdom argued with each other, scolded, reviled, and I saw those who subdued them, and thought: Alas! How wonderful it would be if the ultimate meaning of the Tathagatas, which is completely beyond all conceptual thoughts, were taught! The Buddha said: Dharma-uttara, I have truly awakened to Buddhahood beyond all conceptual thoughts. Having awakened to Buddhahood, I have distinguished, I have clarified. I have said that the ultimate meaning is what the noble ones can realize with their own self-awareness, while what ordinary people can realize is the realm of conceptual thought. Conceptual thought is the realm of characteristics. The ultimate truth is inexpressible. Conceptual thought is the manifest increase of disputes. The ultimate truth is the pacification of disputes. In truth, it cannot be investigated by conceptual thought, or by recollection, or by measurement. One's own self-awareness is a limitless realm, inexpressible and with all terms completely cut off, free from disputes is the ultimate Dharma, it has transcended the realm of conceptual thought. So it is said. The way it enters the continuum of sentient beings is according to the meaning of the last turning of the wheel, showing how the nature of knowledge abides for those of sharp faculties. In the Great Nirvana Sutra of the Noble One, it is clearly shown by such words as "the essence of the Tathagata's secret, the nature of complete purity, unchanging and unmoving," and also, in the Praise of the Dharmadhatu by the Noble Teacher, it is said: Just as water abides in the middle of the earth, it abides without impurity, likewise, wisdom within afflictions also abides without impurity. So it is said.
