A Talk on Dedicating Virtuous Roots to Bodhi - The Abundant Stream of Merit Clouds. A Talk on Dedicating Virtuous Roots to Bodhi - The Abundant Stream of Merit Clouds. A Talk on Dedicating Virtuous Roots to Bodhi, called The Abundant Stream of Merit Clouds, is present here. All the good deeds of existence and peace, are entirely dedicated to sentient beings. With a lion's roar surpassing others, May the son of Śuddhodana, who teaches, bestow auspiciousness! Based on the arrangement of that, the discussion is like the lute of merit clouds. May it accomplish a new feast of nectar for the hearts and ears of discerning minds. Here, to expand by dedicating the accumulations of virtue of oneself and others, let us first speak as follows: Here, our teacher, the unequaled, perfectly complete Buddha, the kinsman of the sun, has well spoken the precious doctrine, the teaching and practice remain immaculate, and the holy beings who uphold the doctrine live and teach the Dharma in this time of perfect opportunity. Unequaled, here, if it is necessary to speak of the greatness of the benefactor, then it is appropriate to the occasion. Note: From the great benefactor of the doctrine, with both thought and action being completely pure, regarding us as a sacred place and making unsurpassed offerings, the giving of wealth, the actions performed, the receiving, and the connection of the three doors of body, speech, and mind, whatever accumulations of virtue arise from these, in order not to waste them in the intermediate state, and in order to increase from above, by dedicating them, expanding them is a unique Dharma of Buddhists. As the teacher, the high venerable accomplished one, said: The object of virtuous deeds is to completely dedicate them to sentient beings. Whatever the Bhagavan has said, that is not explained in other treatises. Therefore, such an arrangement, the meaning extensively explained in the sutras and treatises, if we condense its essence and briefly report it, there are three: definition, meaning of the words, and classification. First, the definition: It is the special means by which any root of virtue that has been manifestly accumulated is completely transformed into the cause of unsurpassed Bodhi.

Therefore, the Protector Maitreya said, "Excellent dedication is extremely rare, this is the most excellent deed of it." Secondly, regarding the meaning of the word: If derived from the Sanskrit word "parinama," it means to completely transform or increase. Because the root of virtue is completely transformed into the cause of Bodhi, and it is increased from top to top until Bodhi is not obtained, so it is said. Third, it is divided into five

And, likewise, to do as has been done and will be done. May everything from everywhere touch goodness on such grounds as goodness itself. Because it is said so. Secondly, the object of dedication is: Lord Maitreya said, "Not belonging to the three realms." As it is said, it is represented by Brahma and Indra, and the Wheel-Turning King, etc. In short, one should not dedicate to the place of happiness and fruition of samsara, which is known as great in the three realms, because those, from the direct and indirect aspects, do not go beyond the nature of suffering, not only that much. In the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it says: "All roots of virtue, except for omniscience, are not allowed to be dedicated to the Hearer's stage or the Solitary Realizer's stage." Therefore, it is also not completely dedicated to the Hearer's and Solitary Realizer's stage of merely one's own peace, because those are obstacles to attaining the complete Buddha for the sake of others. Therefore, those who want themselves to be well, dedicating the Nirvana that does not abide by the extremes of both existence and peace, solely to the state of the All-Knowing Buddha, is a wonderful path that pleases the Victorious Ones, as the great scholar Hero said: "Those roots of virtue that have been cultivated, free from fame, reputation, and the happiness and fruition of gods and humans, and the thoughts of hoping for samsara, are dedicated to the cause of only the transcendent." Because it is said so. Then, is it completely not permissible to dedicate to the cause of longevity and vast enjoyment, etc., in this world? It is not like that, aiming at the ultimate fruit of omniscience alone, in all situations where that fruit has not yet manifested, it is not contradictory to dedicate for the sake of obtaining the complete happiness and fruition of the seven qualities of the heavens, etc. Thirdly, the way to dedicate is: Mahapandita Buddhashri said: "Accumulate merit with the three excellences, increase it correctly with vast means, examine it thoroughly with profound wisdom, seal it with the dedication of union." As it is said, the preliminary is the generation of bodhicitta, the main part is non-objectification, and the subsequent part is dedication for the benefit of others, that is, accumulated through the way of possessing the three excellences, represented by the root of virtue of this very moment, accumulated by oneself and others in the three times.
