The practice method and fasting ritual of the eleven-faced Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara according to the tradition of the Bhikṣuṇī Pālamo, entitled "Completely Purifying Sins and Obscurations." The practice method and fasting ritual of the eleven-faced Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara according to the tradition of the Bhikṣuṇī Pālamo, entitled "Completely Purifying Sins and Obscurations." May there be auspiciousness and victory! སྭསྟི་བི་ཛ་ཡནྟུ། (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) svasti vijaya-ntu. (Auspiciousness, victory, may it be). Sentient beings under the power of others, revolving day and night without interruption, The white and beautiful spring for the eyes, holding the mark of the deer, To that one who is like the young moon, the Lord Avalokiteśvara, Who is distinguished by the practice of enlightenment, I pay homage. The noble one's compassion closely holds the supreme commonality, Although reaching the peak of attaining the accomplishment of union, The protector's conduct of enlightenment leads all beings, The lineage of Pālamo, a diligent servant who strives to lead, The obscuring stains upon seeing the good eleven faces, The method of purification, abiding in fasting even once, Certainly knows that it purifies the sins accumulated over eons, From now on, it purifies, and there is no slackening of respect for others, It does not cast the old dust of entering the ten dharmas, It does not smear the saliva of the angry Ṛṣi, The goddess of the Ganges, the way of fasting, Cuts and severs the obscurations of the minds of sentient beings, Clearly reveals in immaculate words, The learned treatises represented by Pālamo are without stain, The way to practice as it is is not clear, In the manner of filling in the incomplete limbs. Therefore, here, to practice the sādhana and fasting ritual of the noble eleven-faced Lord of the World, Avalokiteśvara, according to the tradition of the Bhikṣuṇī Pālamo, there are three parts: preliminaries, main practice, and concluding activities. First, arranging the supports and offerings, and performing the Uposatha. The first is: Having well obtained these Dharma cycles, at a special time, the Saga month (Tibetan April), or at any other time, on the seventh or fourteenth day of the dark or white fortnight, in the early morning, in a clean and pleasant place, in front of the supports of the Three Jewels, such as the image of the eleven-faced one, on a square platform plastered with cow dung and fragrant mud, the mandala of practice, an eight-petaled lotus with a white center, petals of blue, etc., in the colors of the directions, the four corners decorated with beautiful colors, and the five deities in their respective body colors and
