Secondly, contemplate the impermanence of death: contemplate that death is certain; contemplate that there is no certainty when death will occur; contemplate that at the time of death, nothing but Dharma will be of benefit. The first point also has three aspects: because there is no power to remain after being born, death is certain; because the body has no essence, death is certain; because life is not permanent, contemplate that death is certain. The second point also has three aspects: because life is uncertain, because the causes of death are many, because the causes of life are few, contemplate that there is no certainty when death will occur. The third point also has three aspects: contemplate that at the time of death, food and wealth are of no benefit, relatives and retinue are of no benefit, and great strength and power are of no benefit. Third meaning, contemplating the law of cause and effect: contemplate non-virtuous actions and generate the desire to abandon them; contemplate virtuous actions and generate the desire to accomplish them; contemplate neutral actions and transform them into virtuous actions. The first point has three aspects: contemplate non-virtuous actions, contemplate their results, and contemplate abandoning them. Contemplating non-virtuous actions also has ten aspects: three actions of the body, four actions of speech, and three actions of the mind. The second point, contemplating the results, has three aspects: the ripened result, the result similar to the cause, and the dominating result. The ripened result is the three lower realms. The result similar to the cause also has two aspects: the experienced result similar to the cause and the action result similar to the cause. The experienced result similar to the cause includes: short life1, impoverished resources2, family affairs3 often subject to enemy destruction4, separation from spiritual friends5 and hearing unpleasant words6, insincere speech7 and hopes8 destroyed, constant fear9 and the arising of wrong views10. These are applied sequentially to actions such as killing. The dominating result includes: barren land1, much hail2, dusty conditions3, foul odors4, uneven terrain5, many pitfalls6, and other unfavorable times7, scarce fruits8, small size9, and no flavor10. These are also applied sequentially. The second point, contemplating virtuous actions, also has three aspects: contemplate virtuous actions, contemplate their results, and contemplate accomplishing them. The first point also includes: the ten virtuous actions that are the opposite of non-virtuous actions. The second point also includes: three aspects such as the ripened result, the ripened result being the three higher realms, and the experienced result similar to the cause, etc., arising in opposition to the results of non-virtuous actions. The third point, contemplating neutral actions, also has three aspects: neutral

Reflecting on the steadfastness of karma, reflecting on its lack of fruit, reflecting on transforming it into virtue. Fourth, reflecting on the faults of samsara also has two aspects: reflecting on the general faults of samsara and the specific faults. Reflecting on the specific faults also has three aspects: reflecting on the suffering of suffering, reflecting on the suffering of change, and reflecting on the pervasive suffering of conditioning. The first also has three aspects: reflecting on the suffering of the hells, the suffering of the pretas, and the suffering of the animals. In the hells, there are also: water bubbles, bursting water bubbles, Achuchuhu, Soto, Utpala (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,Lotus), lotus, large lotus cracking, these are the eight cold hells. And: revival, black line, aggregation, crying, great crying, hot, very hot, uninterrupted, these are the eight hot hells. Also: fire, corpse-filled mud, razor path, sword, sword-leaf forest and river, these are the six neighboring hells. Boiling in a large copper pot, eating corpses, drinking boiling water, cutting the tongue, squeezing, rotating in total, iron heated and thrown into the sand, and so on. As mentioned above, the types of occasional hells are inconceivable. Pretas also have: those who dwell in a specific place and those who are scattered. Those who dwell in a specific place also have: those with external obscurations, those with internal obscurations, and those with obscurations of obscurations. Animals also have: those who dwell in a specific place and those who are scattered. Second, reflecting on the suffering of change, that is, reflecting on the suffering of humans, asuras, and gods of the lower realms. Third, reflecting on the pervasive suffering of conditioning, that is, reflecting on the suffering of the gods of the upper realms. Second, the uncommon preliminaries include: taking refuge, which distinguishes from the wrong path of the tirthikas; generating bodhicitta, which distinguishes from the inferior shravakas and pratyekabuddhas; practicing the recitation of Vajrasattva, which purifies obstacles and defilements; and Guru Yoga, which perfects favorable conditions and swiftly receives blessings. These are the four. The first includes: what is the cause of taking refuge, where is the object of taking refuge, how is the manner of taking refuge, what are the benefits of taking refuge in this way, and what are the precepts of possessing these benefits. That is, cause, object, manner, and benefits, as well as precepts, are summarized into five aspects. Thus it is said. Among them, the cause is
